WonderDogs

What an amazing College World Series between Georgia and Fresno State.
Fresno State wins! led by some Big Bulldogs:

Steve Detwiler with 2 dingers and 6 RBIs on the night, all with a completely jacked up thumb
Tommy Mendonca, the CWS' Most Outstanding Player lighting up the hot corner despite 4 dislocated fingers
Steve Susdorf, who previously turned down 50K from the Detroit Tigers last year to stay in school and graduate with a degree in civil engineering--who was drafted again this year by the Philadelphia Phillies
And Frosh Danny Muno who, poor kid, had 3 errors playing SS on the night but came up with the gut-check double play in the ninth to squelch a Georgia rally.

Seriously, I know that we are about football here....but if you couldn't enjoy this three game series for all of the drama, effort, and pagentry provided by these collegiate athletes....you are in need of medical attention! hang up, dial 911 or proceed to your nearest emergency room

Fresno State Settles Another Sex-Bias Complaint With a Female Coach
California State University at Fresno has agreed to pay some $600,000 to settle a complaint by its softball coach, Margie Wright, that it retaliated against her when she pushed for equal treatment of female athletes, according to The Fresno Bee. Ms. Wright had filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, but she did not pursue a lawsuit.

Under the terms of the settlement, the university would pay Ms. Wright $157,000 outright, would cover her legal fees of $45,000, and would increase the value of her retirement and other benefits.

The settlement is the latest in a series reached between the university and a number of female athletics officials who have accused it of sex discrimination against them or their players or both. One month ago, Fresno State agreed to pay $9-million to a former women’s basketball coach who said she had been fired in 2005 because of sex bias. Last fall, the university paid $3.5-million to settle a lawsuit filed by a former associate athletics director. —Andrew Mytelka
