The Notre Dame week version of Wallpaper Wednesday celebrates one of my favorite moments in Michigan football history: Desmond Howard's 1991 4th quarter touchdown against Notre Dame... or as it is now known: THE CATCH.
With Michigan looking to end a string of four consecutive losses to Notre Dame, an early Wolverine spurt had run out of steam and the Irish had gained the momenteum. Then in the 4th quarter Michigan marched into Notre Dame territory. On a critical fourth down play quarterback Elvis Grbac (Howard's high school classmate) launched a high, floating pass that seemed too far to ever be caught. But the speedy future Heisman winner turn on the jets, leaped as far as he could, and cradled the ball in his outstretched hands for the touchdown that gave Michigan the win.
I typically can not stand listening to Brent Musburger -- but his call on that day is forever burned into the happy part of my memory bank. You can watch the play on youtube here (FYI, Les Miles has a bad Michigan polo shirt on at :56 seconds into the clip) or download the entire game here. God bless you Desmond Howard.
