Lion Thanksgiving Open Thread

I don't want to ruin the nice Thanksgiving post with everyone's beautiful messages with a bunch of bitching about the Detroit Lions -- so at the last minute I decided to make a Lions Gameday thread.

The sad thing is that I was never a Lions fan growing up. This is yet another thing I can blame on T9 for steering me in the wrong direction.
I just can't imagine a team going 0-16. Even the Dolphins last year won a game. Come on guys, throw me a BONE....

I hate those throw back uniforms. As bad as the Lions are, their normal home uniforms are bad-ass.

Fumble on the 2nd play.

Titans score right awya.

At least the Lions won't blow an early lead today.

actually, they just threw the Titans a turnover on the second play of the game....
who then took 2 plays to score.

meh.

End of the 1st quarter.

Lions just had a 13 yard punt.

I have a feeling we might see Drew Henson today.

In true holiday tradition, I just got yelled at by my wife for watching football when I should be helping make dinner. I gotta make the deviled eggs.

TitleIX said...

You do make some mean deviled eggs....

the Lions are contributing to the continued national embarrassment of Detroit. sigh.
I almost feel badly for Phil Simms and Jim Nantz--you think they pulled the short straws for this game???

my job today is asparagus. I'm going to endure til the half then I'm off....

at least there are 3 more games to watch throughout the day...

Andy said...

Almost halftime. 35-3.

Deviled eggs are done.

Titans may score 70 today.

Touchdown LIONS !!!!!!!!

Why the spot on the fumble was not reviewed I have no idea. I guess it does not matter.

My last job in the Marine Corps, I was stationed at the recruiting station in Buffalo NY. I was at the playoff game in which these Titans (at the time known as the Houston Oilers) blew a 35-3 lead to the Bills.

It can happen... It likely won't because Culpepper is not Frank Reich and Kevin Smith is not Thurman Thomas -- but it can happen.

Henson comes into the game.

Completes a pass.

Then gets sacked and fumbles twice in a row.

The Curse of Charles Rogers continues...

We heard it was black out here in A2, hmmm, was there some charitable organization that purchased the remaining seats so that this half of the state could see it on television? Ah well, I suppose I am not missing much!

I am thankful that my sister's in-laws decided to have Thanksgiving dinner shortly after the Lions game started and the tv was not put back on until the second half.

Looking on the bright side of things, good football CAN be played this weekend at Ford Field--it's called the Michigan High School Football Finals.

don't forget about the MAC championship game

Don't forget about the motor city bowl. Featuring a big ten team who beat big ten teams that beat UM. And a MAC team who beat a MAC team that beat UM.

I've never really cared much for the Lions. I've been a Steelers fan all my life. (And as a plus, it gives me at least 4 more opportunities to hate ohio each year.)

But I've always kinda liked the turkey day game. Its one of the few traditions that the NFL has, and even if the games are crappy, the lions getting at least one chance to be nationwide helps more than another blackout.

In a fit of irony, yesterday was the 10th anniversary of the Steelers/Lions OT coin flip controversy. I was very mad after that game (particularly because the Steelers lost a playoff spot because of this game) but I am now over it as I found out a few years later that the game was the first time I can say I was in the same building as my future wife. She was in the EMU marching band cheering on Charlie batch and I was watching the Steelers. (I also got over the game about 3 years ago when the steelers were in detroit again for SB XL).

i'm sure you all will say "NSSherlock" but it is odd to me that Marty Morningwig is the offensive coordinator for Philly.
wtf.

where was the offense when he was in Detroit???

The Lions ticked me off when they roared back to get a lead on Green Bay and then proceeded to lose the game. 21 points in like 3 minutes....Unbelievable. Then they ticked me off even more when my Dad and I went to the game and they wouldn't let me in with my Canon 40D. So screw them....They rank with Dallas in my books....
