Ohio State week 2008

We start Ohio State Week 2008 with a little bit of smile from Bo's old friend Woody. This season has not exactly been a lot of fun for us at Michigan - and don't expect it to get any better on Saturday in Columbus. But anything can happen... Hell, even Woody smiled for a picture with a Michigan football once.

Hell if MI scores 24 points I will consider it a win even if O$U score 105. But I don't see it happening that way. I will be waking up and starting drinking immediately.

Just got my new TV and Internet hooked up with ATT. Figuring things out then will be sending out emails to those who deserve them. Also need to change everything on here and sooooooo many other places.
Busy day for me now.

let's keep this all in perspective-

this is a michigan team that most pundits predicted would go 6-6 @ best. we poo-poohed that, but we shouldn't have. we've played poorly and this Saturday will likely be the worst loss against tosu since 1968. we'll have better days in years to come.

this is a tosu team that most pundits predicted would go 12-0 and play for a MNC. they returned something like 30 starters, promised multiple Heisman winners, and featured "big game" coaching genius on the side line. they were pantsed by USC, strangled @ home by psu, will likely play in the Cap One bowl, and will graduate/lose thru the draft or early departure about half their starters (or more).

this will likely be their best michigan game since 1968. they won't have better days (or seasons) in the years to come.

they have peaked. we have hit bottom. we'll head up from here. they will head down.

all in good time.

unfortunately, i just heard that The Game was cancelled saturday due to some logistics problems.

It seems that Michigan couldn't get past Toledo

;)

Sru:

ohio_guy beat you to that one in the "Northwestern Know Your Foe" thread.

I am guessing I will hear that joke another 1000 times before now and kickoff on saturday.

srudoff said...

damn

well it's one of the few osu-michigan jokes that you can't apply to either side. that and the double A battery joke from last year

opening line is 19 points

Booo I guess when you change email on here it changes your blogger name. Anyone know if I can change that now?

Nevermind apparently it's still BAH. good.

When I awoke on Sunday morning I had this strange feeling that this season has all been just a bad dream (more of a nightmare, really). How could this happen to the Wolverines? I have been a season ticket holder for 32 years (starting the year after the bowl streak started) and watching games since 1963 when my sister started going to Michigan. I never thought that such a bad season was possible. I decided to get out some of my old Michigan books. I have several Bo books and both of the Tales from Michigan Stadium written by Brandstater. As I leafed through them, I started to once again get that feeling of the real tradition and started feeling better. Seeing the picture that Andy posted this morning brought a big smile to my face remembering the Ten Year War and all of the other highlights that I have seen in person over those years. Discovering the M Zone only last year and then having Yost "retire" but then the blog continuing with Spawn have helped ease the pain this year. I do not expect much this Saturday but just hope that they can hang with them for awhile and make it interesting. At least by next Saturday the nightmare will be over and we can look forward to better things next year. Go Blue!

wv: silly I guess that sums up the entire season for me!

Wow! Nostradamus is still in the building.

Okay, I think I have this figured out. phil is the supplier who samples his supply, but SiC is the homeless junkie who never really comes out of his stupor.

surrounded in columbus said...

whets,
you think tosu is going to be better next year than they were this year?

you think that some day, even in a couple years (when apparently walking gawd on earth Prior has a couple of seasons under his belt) they're going to be better than when Troy Smith won the Heisman in 2006?

you think your O line will somehow be more mobile & less slow in the future? you D will be able to cover in man? that you'll stop top teams like FLA/LSU/USC?

not like this isn't $weaterboy's 8th season. not like this isn't a mature program reflecting the coaching, recruiting, and style of play. and it's not like you can beat a ranked team from outside the conference w/ this program either.

you've peaked. 41-14; 38-24; and 35-3 says you've peaked.

or someone else is in a stupor.

Bigasshammm said...

Damnit I can't get my email to work properly and am proper pissed off now. Bob I have tried to send you a bunch of the pictures. I'm not quite sure which you've received and which you haven't. Nothing ever goes smoothly in life it seems. Have to go to work soon and am tired of talking to people who work for ATT and are supposed to fix my problem but can't hardly speak english and aren't in this country. Also as soon as you say you're running a MAC they're like "uuuuuhhhhhh hold on." Pissed.

hmmm

has oklahoma peaked?

did they lose consecutive national championship games?

heck they lost two more BCS games after that

where are they sitting today?

peaked?

hardly

you see, we are the Sooners in this analogy - successful, always near the top.

while you guys are the Cornhuskers, once mighty program, now a joke, hoping to get in a win against your big brother every now and again, slinging false trash about how the other guys have peaked while secretly praying inside to someday get somewhere close to where we are now.

have fun on Saturday - remember that the man leading the Buckeyes to victory is the first guy that your coach called when he took the job at michigan, before he told anyone on the team that he coached for so many years, remember that you have to keep that coach for the near future because your AD loaned him a shit load of money to pay off said former team, remember that you'll be starting true freshmen of your own at qb next year, neither of them able to hold the jock of the man who's going to be beating you the next 3 years, and remember of course, your mantra that somehow losing to appy state and toledo is better than losing back to back national championship games.

congrats on 9 losses
congrats on 5 home losses
congrats on a half filled stadium for most of the 2nd half last week

excuse me while i watch my team peak in a major bowl

surrounded in columbus said...

you're Oklahoma?

the same Oklahoma that WVU blew out in the Fiesta Bowl last New Year's???

and lost to Boise State?

didn't really think that one thru, did you?

go back and read your own obnoxious (and now silly) comments on how great you are going to be this season w/ your million returning starters and award winning defense. go watch the DVR of the USC game and tell yourself that if Wells had played you'd have only lost by 21.

go watch the rewind of the LSU game and tell yourself that if the line had protected better you might have stayed closer than two TDs.

go watch the FLA game and go tell yourself that if Ted Ginn hadn't gotten hurt, you'd have scored more than one TD on offense.

you see, we don't want a program that can compete w/ yours- you're no longer considered competition on the national stage. you're a punchline for an SEC BCS joke.

we want to compete w/ the SEC. and the Big 12. the way WVU beat UGa in the Sugar Bowl 3 years ago (yes, the SEC does sometimes lose bowl games- just not to tosu) and OU in last year's Fiesta.

that's the team we're building now. that's a team you'll never have.

enjoy second place & the Cap One. it's as good as it gets.

srudoff said...

yes i did think that through - your comment was that we peaked

oklahoma clearly hasn't despite a worse track record than us

THAT was my point

you based your entire "you've peaked" argument on our recent history in big games (of which you conveniently forget to include the 2006 michigan game, as well as the 2006 texas game)

some programs are just always at or near the top - like us

some programs muddle around, losing to 1-aa teams, losing to a 2-8 MAC team, etc - like you

so yes, in this analogy, we are like Oklahoma and you are like Nebraska (even if you can't beat them in a bowl game)

it's good though that you're now aspiring to be west virginia, as you pointed out

you took their coach - too bad though that you can't take their conference too

sorry sic but you guys suck, and no commentary on your part is going to change that

have fun on saturday, raking leaves or whatever else you'll be doing besides watching the game

whetstonebuck said...

So that's what "this is your brain on drugs" sounds like.

surrounded in columbus said...

tsk, tsk.

yeah. we are really bad this year. we have next year to look forward to still.

you? after the Cap One Bowl? next year lines up as another humiliation by USC, rebuilding the O line, and maybe 2nd or 3rd place in the conference.

this was the year. you missed it.

YOU enjoy Saturday. savor it like a setting sun.

surrounded in columbus said...

whets,
"drugs"? sorry- you can't watch a TV sports college talk show where they discuss the BCS match ups that tosu isn't a running joke.

now, we're not good, but we're not tryng to tell anyone we are.

you're not good, but you seem to want to insist that everyone else listen while you say you are.

maybe you should try some yourself?

whetstonebuck said...

"you're not good, but you seem to want to insist that everyone else listen while you say you are.

maybe you should try some yourself?"

Sic,

Drop the spoon, release the latex and back away slowly from the rock.

We're not good? That's just stupid. We're good, but we didn't meet our expectation of great. I think we all understand not meeting expectations.

We still have an outside shot a BCS bowl which isn't chicken feed. You've read about BCS bowls, yes?

Peaking is something that happens within a season. The ebb and flow of one season to the next is another discussion.

Me thinks you are steeling yourself for another disappointing season even before this one is over.

surrounded in columbus said...

I'm on drugs?

Who's stealing for disappointment?

You're the big bust- #1 ranked MNC to #2 in the Big Ten.

You're "good", just not "great"?

Sure. You're "you'd be 4th place in the Big 12 South" good.

You're "you'd be 3rd place in the SEC East" good.

For a team that was supposed to be BCS MNC great, your version of "good" must be exhilirating.

Deny it all you like- it only confirms your acceptance. Tre$$el has let the game slide past him- he's no Urban Meyer or Pete Carrol, & what little prominence the program had has become the butt of jokes on national tv.

And next year? I'd focus on the "now" if I were you. It's all you got.

ohio_guy said...

"we may suck....but hey, at least you guys aren't the best either"

that's basically what you are saying SiC. Saturday is what matters in this rivalry. Arguing the other stuff is just a pathetic attempt to knock on the team that has owned your ass for the past 4 years.

surrounded in columbus said...

Your 9-2 and people are laughing @ the idea of you making the bcs.

Yeah, you are big time winners.

Bigasshammm said...

I think the argument can be easily summed up here. Yes O$U is good. But they are Big Ten good. And that really is just sad for all of us. With the hiring of RR MI is trying to transcend the Big Ten and move away from it's stereotypes. We'll see if that can pan out.

whetstonebuck said...

SiC,

Denial seems to be your purview. I'm not in denial about anything. We have a good team that didn't meet this year's hype. So what? Happens more often than not. Our two losses are against top ten teams. Do you want to compare?

2002 we had a team that exceeded national expectations. Oh yeah, same coach by the way. Some days you're the bug; some days you're the windshield.

What the hell is wrong with you? You sound like a bitter old man attacking youth just because you can't perform any more.

Are you trying to say you wouldn't trade places with tOSU over the past few years? You have the nerve to call our program a national joke? Have you left all sense of reality?

Geez Louise, maybe you're not on drugs, but off your meds.

surrounded in columbus said...

BAH,
as usual, you are concise & correct. or maybe you're off your meds too.

"good" is a relative term. i think there's a proverb that goes: in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king (or some such).

i guess tosu can consider itself that one eyed man. i guess michigan fans are aiming higher than that.

whetstonebuck said...

Speaking of proverbs:

Of all the passions, jealousy is that which exacts the hardest
service, and pays the bitterest wages. Its service is, to watch
the success of our enemy; its wages to be sure of it.

Just sayin'.

surrounded in columbus said...

jealousy?

funny.

yes, i wish our program was better, today. no, i would never want it to by like yours.

ever.

"pride" is our deadly sin. "envy" belongs to tosu.
