Bowl game fun

The team may not be headed to a bowl game, but the coaches went to one...

As I was watching the final couple of minutes of the Motor City Bowl tonight I noticed some familiar faces on the sidelines. I grabbed a quick frame when I realized that both Rich Rodriguez and Calvin Magee were watching Florida Atlantic beat Central. At first it did not make any sense... and then I read T9's comment in this weeks NFL update. Central Michigan Head Coach Butch Jones spent the 2005 and 2006 seasons as an assistant coach under Rich Rodriguez at West Virginia University. I think that might also be Tony Dews may also be standing to Magee's left.

Watching this game reminded me too much of the 2008 Michigan football season and strangely elevated my blood pressure a little. The spread offensive attack is so dependent on a QB to make the right decisions and right plays. CMU QB Dan LeFevour is about 10,000% times better at running the offense than either Steven Threet or Nick Sheridan. Looking back, how we won 3 games this year is a miracle.

I wonder why they went for it instead of kicking a FG when it was 24-13 with about 5 minutes left...that was basically the difference in the game.

I thought the same thing.

He offense was rolling once he started running the QB. I think Butch Jones thought he could score 2 TDs in 6 minutes and win the game.

The procedure penalty inside the 5 yard line killed them.

the down field offensive facemask that wiped out that long TD hurt them pretty bad as well

Yep. Yet another state of Michigan team that can't win at Ford Field.

Given the state of the Michigan / Auto Industry economy... I won't be shocked if this is the last Motor City Bowl we see for a while.

George Perles says no, but I don't see Ford and GM shelling out a lot of money for this going forward.

Andy,

"Yet another state of Michigan team that can't win at Ford Field" huh? Did you forget the WMU Bronco victory over Illinois?

Maybe RR is looking for a return favor.

As for the going for it as opposed to kicking the figgie....I'd much rather see a coach go down in flames trying to win rather than taking the safe bet and trying not to lose....

That's Tony Gibson to the viewer's left of Rodriguez

two sub-optimal coaching calls IMHO....
1) going for it instead of kicking the 3
2) on-sides kick with 3 minutes and 2 time outs on your side

Anyone watching WV and NC light up the scoreboard????

Meanwhile in a parallel universe,
West FBG Virginia wins another Bowl Game sans RR. What does this mean? Film at eleven.

Wisconsin sucks

wv=phost, a dead comment on a message board that comes back to haunt you?

Wisconsin had no business playing in a bowl game. Nor does Minnesota. If you lost to this year's MI team then you should be exempt from bowl selection.

What's the truth to the rumors I heard that the Lions will be in next years Motor City Bowl?

Hammy, the lions would have to win their way through the MAC to get there. Don't see that happening.

Pshaw. Basketball, *snort*. Basketball is for people that can't play football. Don't bother me with such banalities.

Basketball is the NASCAR of the ball sports.
