When your team goes 3-9, sometimes it is best to just shake your head, shut up and walk away. Unfortunately for me, that is not my style. For the record: I am not a big fan of taunting t-shirts or apparel based scoreboard mockery. It just never seems like a good idea to me. One thing I am quite certain, eventually college football will give you the opportunity to place that shoe on the other foot -- and that t-shirt will end up on some homeless person. I thought it was insane when every
Michigan State fan I knew went out and bought an Appy State t-shirt last year, only to lose to the team that lost to Appy State. I thought it was quite short-sighted for Sparty to print up "scoreboard" t-shirts after they won this year (as if we are never going to beat them again). I chuckled to myself a little last week when ohio_guy pointed out that the Buckeye Corner was selling t-shirts celebrating the Bucks 42-7 stomping of Michigan this year. I equate this laughable garment to a t-shirt made to celebrate the Indianapolis Colts 31-21 win over the winless Detroit Lions this afternoon. Nice job beating on the crippled kid guys. Go Bucks.

But not to be outdone, I have decided to design my own ridiculous "we scored more points than you in this game" t-shirt for Michigan fans to wear going forward*. Keep in mind that every time you hear that wonderful song Carmen Ohio -- it was caused by this 86-0 spanking by the 1902 Wolverines.Wear it with pride Michigan fans. Go Blue.
* Not really, I don't want to actually deal with the battle the Collegiate Licensing Company would wage if I ever tried to print and sell this t-shirt.

The 1902 edition of the Michigan Wolverines was arguably the best college football team in history. Undefeated, outscored their opponents 644-12 including the most lopsided victory in the history of the greatest rivalry 86-0 and dominating MSU 119-0.
Fielding Yost* also created the Rose Bowl that year along with the Michigan A.D. The year's was the first edition and in the third quarter with Michigan up 49-0 the Stanford captain resigned to the Michigan captain. Point-a-minute baby, point-a-minute.
*Don't care what anyone else says, he was the greatest college coach ever. He created the linebacker position as well as made many other numerous contributions that are essential to the game today at all levels unlike some ideas that are just gimmicks. He was as fundamentally influential on the game of football as anyone else ever. He also happened to be a WVA grad.
Pardon me, those were the 1902 tallies, but it was the 1901 team that was the team to play in the first grand daddy of them all. They are the only team to be undefeated, untied, and unscored upon in all games, outscoring everybody 550-0.
Andy--
you forgot to mention the guy selling crappy roasted almonds at the Stadium while wearing a Toledo hat.
THAT was classic!!!!
He really showed us!
Geez, Louise.
Did any of the other teams even know the rules back then?
not to disagree, but i understand App St fans making up tee shirts. they're never going to have a moment like that again.
same w/ GVSU when they beat MSU in b-ball (or Findlay when they beat tosu). if you're a DII school and beat a big name DI school, that's a special moment for that program. i can't fault them for making a "big deal" out of it.
what i don't get (or just find bush league) is one big school making up tee shirts over a win(s) over another big school- especially one you play every year.
as bad as our record since 2001 is, it's still not "cooper" bad (yet- 1-6 puts us on the edge of it). do any of us ever recall seeing a "cooper" era tee shirt spouting "10-2-1"?
nice to know who is obsessed w/ whom.
And now for something completely different...
Something positive about an Ohio State football player. Sure, it's ancient history, but I digress.
Archie Griffin, in his interview with Hannity & Colmes, gives a short shout-out to Michigan, but the gist of the story is about being a quality individual. Another spokesman for all that is good about sports.

SiC...1-7, even closer.
regarding the shirt...if you look closely, it does mention 5 straight years of beating UM (something that had never happened before, so worth mentioning), the 75th anniversary of the gold pants tradition starting, and 4 straight big ten titles. The shirt is about more than just celebrating one win over a pathetic team.
Whets,
Archie is a very classy guy who just happened to tosu.
i've met him casually once or twice over the years and he's extremely gracious. the first time was about 10 years ago about a week before the m-tosu game in an elevator. i was wearing an m tie- he immediately noticed, asked if i was an alum, and then went on to discuss how much he appreciated the rivalry, etc., and how great the game was going to be.
if more tosu fans (or people in general) emulated him, it would be a nicer world.
"if more tosu fans (or people in general) emulated him, it would be a nicer world."
Amen.
OG:
I saw all the cute little details. It still does not make it any less pathetic in my book.
I am ok with celebrating a team championship or a string of them. But the largest part of this shirt is the 42-7 score.
Andy,
the fact that they made up & sold a tee shirt last year, and the year before, etc., really undercuts the rationale that THIS year's was about something "more".
"the fact that they..."
Uh, oh. The infamous "they". We all know "they" are related to the scurrilous "them." Next, "those" people will mount an attack.
Oh, the humanity!
the first time I ever saw merchandise showing the score of an individual osu/um game was 2002. ever since then, I have seen shirts made up by the fans of which ever team won.
oh and btw, 1-7 is a worse winning percentage than 2-10-1
if we ever go 3-9, you have my blessing to print all of the t-shirts you want celebrating it - i'll even buy a few!!
"if more tosu fans (or people in general) emulated him, it would be a nicer world."
i guess saying "go fuck yourself cocksucker" is a step in the right direction towards making this a nicer world
arrgh. more bad math. michigan's record over the last 13 games is 5-7-1, which, w/out too much calculation, is a better % than 2-10-1. comparing an 8 game % to a 13 % isn't very meaningful (not that comparing a 13 game % to another 13 game % is actually meaningful, but it borders on the statistically significant).
and geez, Sru? can't you get anything right?
it was "go fuck yourself you humorless cock"
someday's i have to wonder if you're really even trying.
SiC, you first brought up the 2-10-1 and 1-7 (well, you said 1-6, but you meant 1-7). I took that as comparing OSU's record vs UM under Cooper to UM's record vs Tressel...not as a random sample of games (since as you said, comparing 13 games to 8 makes little sense).
That's why I compared the winning percentages of those two separate stretches, as opposed to comparing to 2-10-1 to the most recent 13 years.
actually, i was comparing events "worthy of making up a tee shirt", not the winning percentages of any given streak.
and as for the original topic, i wouldn't consider either streak to be "tee shirt worthy", though this whole exchange has made me recall the "sponge worthy" episode from Seinfeld, so i guess it wasn't all for naught.
your correction definitely makes this world a nicer place
for all of your complaining about the behavior of ohio state fans, i've never told any michigan fans to go f* themselves, nor have i called them a cock.
not sure which is worse, printing t-shirts to celebrate wins over pathetic teams or personal attacks over the internet
Can't we all just get along?
-Rodney
so, you think your self described "calling out" in the other thread wasn't a "personal attack"?
your repeated accusations that i wasn't standing by my initial statement or was making excuses or simply trying to avoid a bet, those weren't a "personal attack"?
are you one of those sadly passive agressive types that think that they can impugn someone's character at will so long as you don't actually admit that's what they are doing?
do you think you can say "i don't think you're very honest" but since you didn't use the word "liar", you didn't really call them a "liar"? and that anyone who reacts as if they had been called a "liar" is way out of line for their reaction?
are you really sitting there in your cubical, all smug & moral, because you went on at length "calling out" my statements, but since you didn't literally call me a "liar" or a "chiseler" or something similar, you don't think that's NOT making it a "personal attack"?
got news for you- it is.
Apparently not. THUMP!
Sic,
Don't kid yourself, he's a Tuos fan, he doesn't work in a cubicle. He drives an old rusty coupe, wears a red jacket, and says, "Thank you for ordering from Peter Piper's Pizza Shack where the pizza is always Peter piping hot, your total is 11.96." Then he tries to win arguments on the internet to feel better about himself.
Though to be honest, you are also trying to prove a point on the internet... and that's like winning the special olympics, even if you win you are still retarded. No need to take an internet attack so personally like he's impugning your family honor or something. If this was real life I feel like you are about to make it onto an episode of Dave Chapelle's "When keeping it real goes wrong" or something. Though hilarious, I wouldn't wish that upon a Maize 'n Blue comrade... that's for all our Tuos friends. Keep it blue, keep it true Sic and have a meritorious day!
P.S. 42-7 = When keeping it real goes wrong!
ahhhh
home sweet home again
mudslinging, name calling, and general derision reigns again!
must mean that a winning football team must not be far behind!!!???
;-)
Tilting with windmills, am I? I suppose you are right.
Yowza, SiC.
Throwing out Quixotisms. Seems you stayed awake in Lit. class.
SiC said"and geez, Sru? can't you get anything right?

Aw crap I got alcohol coming out my nose! LOL
"Aw crap I got alcohol coming out my nose! LOL"
Remember the old axiom: A sanitized booger is a chewable booger.
Uhhh....Yum? ick.
asking you to put your money where your mouth is regarding insinuating that tressel never suspends starters (Ray Small be damned) isn't anywhere near a personal attack - it's seeing if you truly believe that enough to put money on it versus just saying it to be "cool" or funny.
but whatever, you can win this internet argument - two more and you'll be in richrod territory
Back to the original thing. How come Knute Rockne is the greatest thing since sliced bread and Yost and Crisler get treated like footnotes?
Because Rockne was the coach at a catholic school (therefore it has national appeal) and he died in a plane crash. His life cut short makes an easy hero. Have Yost die in 1906 in a train wreck and he is a hero for the ages as well. Thank the lord he didn't.
