Watching the playoff games yesterday, I saw something I don't ever recall seeing during an NFL game -- certainly not a PLAYOFF game.Pittsburgh WR Santonio Holmes had just returned a punt for the Steelers first touchdown and as he is running to the sidelines he is congratulated by a member of the San Diego Chargers. Former Ohio State Buckeye and current Charger LB Matt Wilhelm. Wilhelm actually slapped his hand during the game.
These two were never teammates in Columbus -- Wilhelm left OSU after the 2002 National Championship and Holmes played from 2003-2005. I would expect guys from the same school to be nice to each other before and after the games, but during the game is a different story. I am not sure how I would feel about this if I were a Charger fan. I guess the Buckeye football fraternity is stronger than the loyalty to a current employer.

San Antonio, as Keith Jackson mistakenly referred to him on a regular basis, was a freshman during Wilhelm's senior year but red shirted.
I guess you can contrast the Buckeye loyalty with so many Michigan players that now state their high schools instead of Michigan during their MNF intros. What's up with that???
Let's define "so many"... please tell how many Michigan players state the name of their high school rather than Michigan ?
I think I remember one -- and that was more of a "shout out" to his high school than a slam on Michigan.
My bad on the redshirt season. Wikipedia says Holmes graduated from high school in 2003. Surprisingly... it is wrong.
I doubt it even had to do with their past allegiance in college. It was probably something one of them said before or after the game or during a play and they were doing it for that. A lot of trash talk can be construed as being nice also.
You had to see the replay.
Holmes was going to the sideline and stopped and tapped Wilhelm's hand. I am sure that Wilhelm said something to catch his attention like "nice job San Anton"
From a human being perspective, it was actually a pretty cool move by Wilhelm. But it is not something you see very often on an NFL football field.
wilhelm was flagged for sportsmanlike conduct on the play fwiw
as for 'so many'.... enough for a bunch of people to bitch about it on the scout forums earlier this year - i'm pretty sure they said one particular player NEVER says UM
for some stupid reason you can't do searches on scouts forums so i can't find the thread. i never watch MNF unless the browns are on (getting killed most likely) so i'm using them and my best friend's complaining as my source
wv: 'smsdundy' awesome
They had to be nice to each other. Buckeyes have so few friends in this world.
I don't know I still think it could of been one of those hand slaps after the LBer said something like "next time you do that I'm gonna bust your head off" or something. And San An just laughed and clapped his hand in a "sure sure" motion.
" Michigan players that now state their high schools instead of Michigan during their MNF intros. What's up with that???"
the one I remember most was during the Raiders vs Bucs super bowl. Woodson said "Fremont Ross Little Giants"
as for the original topic...it was pretty cool IMO.
Thanks OG. I just looked at my Bucs/Raiders SB dvd and yes, Charles Woodson did say "Fremont Ross Little Giants"
This is a perfect example of what I was talking about: Given Woodson's public support and generous loyalty after he left Michigan -- I thnik it is safe to say he was giving a "nod" to his high school and home town rather than showing disrespect to Michigan.
