As if I did not eat enough yesterday at the Super Bowl party I attended, it is time to step up to the buffet.1) Larry Foote Super Bowl introduction: Anyone looking to tear down Larry Foote because he did not say "Michigan" during the player intros on NBC's Super Bowl broadcast needs to seek professional help. There is nothing wrong with giving a shout out to your high school. LaMarr Woodley said Michigan a couple of seconds right before, so if you really needed to hear it, you did. Foote now has two Super Bowl rings (and will likely get more) he can say just about anything he wants. You only need to read this quote he made during SB week to understand he clearly has no lingering animosity towards the Michigan program. If I went to a high school with a name like the DETROIT PERSHING DOUGHBOYS -- I think I would say it a lot too. That name is about as badass of a name as you can get.
2) Steve Breaston's afro: Because I failed to set my TIVO before I left the house yesterday I can't share it right now, but Steve Breaston's afro in his head shot was epic. I am grabbing the torrent of the game right now, so I will have it later today. Move over Oscar Gamble, Steve Breaston is taking over.
3) Gold Medal Bong hits: For those of you looking to mock a celebrated Olympic athlete, your time is here. Anyone looking to rip on Michigan because of the strong Michael Phelps connection, tear away. Michael Phelps is a 23 year old kid. He has 14 gold medals and more money than you. He went to a party in Columbia, SC (is this an SEC conspiracy to make the B10 look bad ???) and took a few bong hits. Get over it. He has spent the last 6 months traveling around the country so people can give him standing ovations and feel good about being an American. If he smokes pot at a party, that would put him strongly in mass cluster of average American 20 somethings. After reading his public statements in which he admitted that he made a judgement mistake, I officially continue to don't care. He still has a wheel-barrel full of gold medals and can swim faster than most of us can run.
4) Santonio Holmes: Congrats to SanAntonio Holmes for winning the Super Bowl MVP. He was the best offensive player in a Steelers uniform yesterday. The game winning catch was astounding. Congrats to THE Ohio State Buckeye football family for nabbing your first MVP trophy. Anyone looking to tear down Holmes for admitting that he sold drugs as a kid, see my comments on Michael Phelps. I don't really care. Holmes is a product of the environment he grew up in. I am glad he found a way to a better life. I am also glad I can put this buckeye sticker I have lying around to a good use.5) Auggie Garrido: Texas baseball coach Auggie Garrido did something unique today. The winningest coach in division I college baseball history went to court and plead guilty to a DWI charge. I can't remember the last time a public figure got arrested for something and walked into court and said "guilty" without some sort of bargaining process. I spend a lot of time watching Garrido teach his kids how to become good players and better men during the college baseball season. In my opinion this is an incredibly strong lesson for him to teach: Do what is right. Take responsibility for your choices and actions. Learn from your mistakes.
6) Recruiting and National signing day: We are down to the final couple of days before high school seniors can officially sign a binding letter of intent to the college of your choice. I silently follow what is going on because I love Michigan. From all indications RR has rounded up a decent class, filling many areas of critical need. We are still in the hunt for some additional players and I hope we continue to add more talent. T9 and I will continue to hold to our policy of not talking about high school recruits until they officially put on the uniform and start practicing with the team. There is always a lot of rumors floating around these kids and I see no upside in talking about them until they are here.

Andy,
I take it your morning Corn Flakes exuded an aroma of ammonia.
Mustard gas
As per the Phelps thing:: He has spent a lot of his time the last few years in other countries where pot smoking is most likely not illegal at all. I despise most all things drug related and the people who use them but in general I find pot smoking only a little bit more offensive then regular smoking. Almost everyone I have known in my life and age group has tried or smoked pot in their lifetime. I can truthfully state that I never have once but have always had it around me. Whether he chose to do it because he was pressured into it or because he likes it is no big deal to me. Millions of Americans do it and it is the one and only drug that I think should be legalized. The tax money from it alone could solve much of our debt problems. But that's another debate. Being who he is he is going to have his entire life forever under the public microscope and that is wrong. It's sad that our society is like this but it is. The American dream is dead.
Easy there big fella. The American Dream is alive and well. Michael Phelps is living proof of it.
In a couple of weeks no one will think twice about this.
In 3 and a half years from now everyone will be cheering for him again as he wins more gold for his collection.
given that the citizens of the State of Michigan just voted to legalize medical mary-jane, I'd like to posit that Phelps was actually engaged in some sort of healing training ritual.....
and: w/r/t Larry Foote and the Doughboys. Don't be surprised if Mr. Foote isn't a Lion very soon.

oh yeah---
and as if that bucknut sticker wasn't sickening enough Andy you gotta assault us with that image???
ewwwwwwww ;-)
If LArry signs and plays for the Lions he will immediately become my favorite NFL football player -- and I will go out and buy a FOOTE Honolulu Blue Lions jersey that same day.
Regarding Larry Foote playing for the Lions, I would not wish that on anyone. I know he wants to play in Detroit and if that's what he wants more power to him. You know what you call 40 guys sitting around a TV watching the Super Bowl? The Detroit Lions. (got that from the last months Readers Digest, although that joke is almost as old as me).
T9.. I totally agree with you on the bucknut sticker. I have been a little nauseous ever since I first saw it and the feeling is not going away.
Anyone else out there watch Heros? The next chapter starts tonight. I will have to dvr it and watch later since I have to also watch 24.
Yes Bob Mondays have become the night of DVR heaven. House, Heroes and Top Gear on BBC America. I have nay-sayed Heroes for awhile because I believe the writers are butchering a hell of a good idea for a show but House and Top Gear are my two favorite shows on TV. Aside from The Simpsons, the longest running television program of it's kind in history!
I got off work tonight because I had to spend more time inside the bowells of my wife's car. Don't buy Volkswagen, EVER. VW should be German for piece of shit. This car has been nothing but a nightmare since the moment she bought it 4 years ago. I will celebrate grandly the day we no longer own it. Sadly that will probably be the day it no longer turns on.
Breaking News: Boone-head: Former Buckeye runs wild in Cali (AP)
ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (AP) - Ohio State offensive lineman Alex Boone was arrested after being subdued with a Taser during an alleged drunken tirade.
Authorities said on Monday that the 21-year-old Boone was taken into custody late Sunday for investigation of resisting arrest after Orange County sheriff's deputies responded to a disturbance call outside of a home in Aliso Viejo.…
Well that will help his draft stock. I guess Boone was trying to make up for Holmes' super sunday. "That'll do pig, that'll do."
