National Signing Day

Today is the day high school recruits can finally make a binding decision on where they want to play college football. There will be tremendous coverage throughout the Michigan blog-o-universe to keep up with who signed and who didn't. I would start with MGoBlog, MSC, and Rivals. On a national basis ESPNU has a decent setup. MGoBlue will have a wrap up press conference at 3PM EST and promises to update their list as the day goes on and the signed letters come over the fax machine.

My 2009 Michigan recruiting wish list:
1) a QB that can step in and run the RR spread offense. He needs to be able to make plays with both his feet and his arm, plus get out of trouble when things don't go right. This was the single most important reason we only won 3 games last year.
2) Offensive linemen. A lot of them. The more the better. Must be willing to run to the line and not eat too many pizzas.
3) Safeties that can both cover recievers and when needed come up and deliver a hit without falling down first.
4) Defensive line. Quick ends that can read the zone option and big tackles that can plug the gaps.

Go Blue !

early news reports suggest that Illinois has "snake oiled" a tosu commit away at the last minute and had one of their WR commits carried off to Wisconsin by someone in a wizard's hat.

of course, none of this sort of behavior ever took place prior to R2's arrival and his single handed destruction of the gentlemen's agreement.

I hope Tressel has enough cash on hand from his alumni base to make all the payments today.

Thankfully it looks like Sheridan's days at QB are over. Forcier is already enrolled (to the best of my knowledge) and we did land Denard Robinson at QB also. They will compete with each other for the starting role and I wouldn't be surprised if they split time next season. Very nice.

omg

a "buckeyes paying the players" joke!

my sides, my sides, stop please

if you can't beat 'em, accuse them of cheating (and then follow it up by living vicariously through the SEC) right?

MGoBlue has listed the names of the early enrollees:

William Campbell, Vladimir Emilien, Tate Forcier, Brandin Hawthorne, Mike Jones, Anthony LaLota, and Vincent Smith.

And the MSU website has has issued a preliminary list of it's early paroles.

The always prompt and reliable Michigan Sports Center has an updated list of LOI signees (via Rivals). Looks like we just got a big time WR from Philadelphia to sign.

On the down side, we lost out on some beef on the defensive line today when a couple of kids we were hoping for made their final decisions for other destinations.

I have no issues with a kid deciding to go somewhere else. Choosing a college is a tough process. I could never hope to understand the microscope these guys are under.

R2 is on MGoBlue.com right now, going over the signees, player by player.

Looks like a pretty damn good class. With 3 spots still open I guess. 22 letters signed. I like having the 2 QBs and some O-line meat.

I watched and listened to the RR presser. The difference between this year and last year in the positive messages is great. Considering we only had 3 wins last year, I think this class is very good. It is great to see some players with the skill set needed for the system agree to come here. I am excited about the future.

I think it is safe to say we will have the top class of any three win team in the country.

WoooWhoooo !!!!

Andy,
amen.

i'd say it's a very good class on overall talent, but an excellent class in terms of filling "needs". this group has a real focus on all of the positions we lacked depth in: two QBs; 3/4 LBs; 5 DBs; in addition to rounding out some additional OL, RBs, etc.

it would have been nice to have landed a 2nd DT (and next year that position will be a critical need) but the one we did sign, Will Campbell, is stellar.

hard not to be happy to do this well.

We have beaten you, and we do most of the time we play you. Remember, college football started before 2000

I "love the smell of Snake Oil on National Signing Day."

It smells, like, victory.

In another 5 years, the last 5 years will be "a long time ago".

srudoff said...

yes but then it will be 11-2 instead of 7-1. which is better than 10-2-1 for what it's worth

surrounded in columbus said...

and then what?

seriously, suppose that happens, so what?

Michigan fans will still look down on tosu.

we'll still make truck driver/maid jokes.

we'll still be arrogant & act superior.

we'll still laugh at your expense.

why? 'cause we're still better than you.

and you know it.

that's why you're typing away on michigan blog, pathetically panting "5-0"!!

humorless and boring.

what a sad little life you must leave.

and i thought phil's "cash" joke was funny.

classic, actually.

srudoff said...

hey you guys are arrogant as hell at 3-9 so no doubt you'll keep it up

toledo jokes are old
appy state jokes are old
matta & tress jokes are old

yet buckeyes cheat is classic

got it

fwiw it's much more fun going against the grain on a rival's site than to go with the herd on a site where 90% of the posters think and feel the same way as you

btw looks like you passed "Double Spaced Typing 201" while at UM

congrats

Nice to see that the WLA are getting trashed on MGO. Not sure why Brian would allow them to post on his site but oh well. Good to see that not everyone enjoys their senseless babble.

Damn the Spring Game is so far away.

Andy said...

I saw the post by Dex on MGoBlog. Given the constant attacks the WLA makes on posters over there, I question Brian's sanity for giving them the keys to the car while he is away.

I will admit his post was humorous -- but it is hard to laugh at the words when you know they are written by such a ass-clown.

Bigasshammm said...

I find it not humorous at all and the same dribble they post daily. Their posts remind me of the kid who tries to act smart by talking big and inflating his vocabulary when really he knows nothing. Which is probably why they have a strong following because there's a lot of people out there like that.

Sic, Sic, Sic. Do you whisper that to your wife?

Actually, that's not true and impossible to prove--too many subjective measuring tools. However, sad little lives cling to such phantom "realities" to justify their inadequacies. It's your story--tell it accordingly. Speaking of such…

616blue,

"it's always a good reality check to have you around "dem der theese parts. cuz we furget wut it be like ta talk cousin."

Last month, prior to the current Mid-west cold snap, I was sitting in a restaurant in Kentucky when in walked a family all decked out in Michigan sporting gear. Between the eight or so family members, a full set of teeth was represented…probably. I must add that copious amounts of facial hair adorned all; the women had less than the men. In-breeding was reduced to a flip of a coin.

Of course, I smiled to myself remembering all the banter from this little cyber neighborhood about how much holier Michiganders are compared to the rest of the world (Note: I'm in Kentucky).

Now, my narrative would be irresponsibly reported if I didn't mention that Michigan Jed and the rest of his Clampett clan arrived at said restaurant in a brand new Lincoln Navigator with Michigan plates. Strange and yet somewhat expected. My conclusion: one of this Cro-Magnon group worked in a Ford plant. Yes, that beats delivering pizzas, I suppose, but as they say, “you can put lip-stick on a pig…”

Nothing says superiority like the Peacock family decked out in blue and maize.

(Back to your regular scheduled discussion concerning commits)

Whets,

Understood. I have seen "plentie of dem der walmart wolverines in rural 616 wit my neew job-errr, career." fun stuff when dude/dudette is sporting maize and blue gear rocking a mullett with a pleather Steve and Barry's $15 jacket.

little brother fans love those visuals so much, they have created a website in honor of the aforementioned walmart wolverines.
