Monday madness at the buffet table

  • Oklahoma's Blake Griffin is getting alot of national attention along with some scorn of Michigan fans for his antics during the NCAA 2nd round game. I hope those same people that loathed Blake's "gun show" thought Desmond's "heisman pose" was just as uncouth. I don't get worked up over college kids having fun and doing silly things.
  • Griffin is predicted as the overall #1 pick in the NBA draft. I will agree he is an exciting and explosive college player, but comparing him at this point to Shaq is premature. Instead, I would call him the next Corliss Williamson.
  • Bad news: The Michigan Hockey team gave up 4 goals in the 3rd period, blowing a 2 goal lead to lose to Notre Dame in the CCHA finals. Good news: The Michigan Hockey team made it to their 19th straight NCAA tourney and will play Air Force on Friday as the #1 seed in the Eastern Region.
  • Michigan senior wrestler Steve Luke won the NCAA championship on saturday. He became the 14th different wolverine grappler to bring home the NCAA title. Ohio State blew a big lead on the last day and finished second in the team standings to Iowa.
  • After getting swept at Arizona a few weekends ago, Michigan's Baseball team has won 4 in a row. Their game with Eastern this week has been moved up because of a prediction of bad weather. Shocking.
  • Just a reminder for my friend T9: my birthday is in late April. Instead of a softball, I think I would like to have Maggie Viefhaus sign my bald head.
  • Spring practice has started and the spring football game is quickly approaching. A scheduling mistake on my part has forced me to make a change in plans. Sorry, but there will be no Spawn get-together this year. I failed to connect Easter weekend with the spring game weekend. My wife did not fail to remember Easter. She wins.
  • The Ann Arbor News is closing up shop. Queue the munchkins...

Just some ramblings....

- The Blake Griffin thing only bothered me because it played right into the perception of him getting calls because of his reputation. I was also having flashbacks to the football season with CBS showing his parents after every flippin play.

- The hockey game was a disaster. Things fell apart so quickly I did not have time to get upset. Maybe they can win the NCAA and make up for it.

- Baseball / birthday party... After reading the flyer I have a few concerns about trying to do a party for Andy. I am sure they serve the incorrect type of beverage and I would not be confident that we could control the "kids" during the event.

- Iowa has such a history of being good at wrestling that it was not a big surprise to me that tuos was overtaken by them for the overall wrestling championship.

- Spring game conflict with Easter. Maybe next year.....

- Ann Arbor News shut down. My wife and I were going to start getting this again since the Detroit Free Press is doing a similar thing. I guess we cannot do that now. I am still trying to figure out how I can read the sports section in the "library" via the internet. I guess I have to buy another lap top for this purpose. It just won't be the same.

let me guess- you want Viefhaus to sign your head because...

she's a career .292 hitter?

I have a long standing thing for michigan softball 3rd base-persons.

conversely, hope that all michigan fans that were ok with desmond's pose (99.999% of them) are ok with blake griffin's pose.....

thought so

Desmond's pose was about himself and not done in a taunting manner as Griffin's gun salute was. Apples/Oranges because of that.

Desmond's pose is more akin to Ovechkin's "hot stick" routine after his 50th goal. Or The Sharpie routine after a TD. All of those struck me as egocentric, unique, and pretty funny.

Kissing your guns over Zack Novak?? not so much.

AND-- I got no comment about the bald head. However, softball opens it's season at home this weekend.....

just a sucker for the "hot corner", are you?

Andy,

The spring game may be Easter weekend, but T9 does live in The Great Lakes State.

Coach R2 wants to have a big crowd, BAH said the tailgate/spring game is on his schedule as well as mine (weather permitting.)

That being said, anyone up for a SpawNation tailgate for the Spring Game? I am talking about a family friendly tailgate, not a "little brother like beer bong fest."

I agree with T9. Between the aura of untouchability granted by the officials and Blake's constant posing, the game left a very bad taste in my mouth. I can take getting beat, but it stings worse when the opponents douche-factor is so high.

Whoever compared Griffin to Shaq is ludicrous. Shaq would abuse him like a 5 year old abuses a puppy. I hope he goes to the NBA and realizes that his size and strength are nothing compared to men who have been training for years. It's a whole different world in the NBA and I don't think he's big enough to play the same way he does now and be successful. Teams will own him.

As for the Spring game it never occurred to me that that was Easter weekend. I still plan to attend as long as the weather is permitting. It looks like now it will just be me and the wife or me and the stepson and any other men who want to come along. The wife shot down my idea of bringing the little m MI munchkin because she thinks it would be too overwhelming for her. In a way it might be but I was hopeful. Any tailgate idea is cool by me as obviously I have a 3 hour drive and look forward to a little relaxation when I get there. Would love to see Bob's gang again but if they have family obligations that's totally understandable as well.

Hockey seems to be developing quite a large hatred of ND in my gullet.

Bob you could always try out "The Sporting News" If it's even still in print. I used to get this many years ago and found it as a much better sporting newspaper than SI or anything else. I think it's a weekly publication too or maybe Bi-weekly I can't remember.
