Kissed by the Godfather of doom....

This from the freep.com:

Millen, the former Detroit Lions president, said he’ll be back in the state of Michigan early this fall, calling college football games for ABC.
He’s expected to broadcast the Michigan-Notre Dame game Sept. 12 in Ann Arbor. He's getting back to work as a college game analyst for ESPN/ABC, studio analyst for NFL games on ESPN and the NFL Network.
Though he’s still figuring out the college game, he has extraordinary faith in Michigan and head coach Rich Rodriguez.
“What he’s trying to do, that’s a tough thing because he’s trying to change a whole culture,” Millen said. “What he’s trying to implement and putting in there is going to take time, No. 1, and you have to get the right players for what he’s trying to do. It’s a big change from what Lloyd (Carr) was trying to do. Lloyd had a great program, had a great run, and they went this direction with Rich. Rich will take a little bit of time, but when it’s implemented fully, it can be very explosive.
“Once he gets everything in place, all the pieces, it’ll be Michigan football. I have no doubt Rich will get the job done.”

Awwwww for crissakes. Really? Really? As if we don't have enough black crepe hanging around here, we have to get Matt Millen and his 'expertise'.
Armageddon I say.
Armageddon.

T9,
keep this in perspective- while Millen couldn't manage worth a damn, he was always good at saying the right things. his analysis as a commentator was actually very good (ironically, that's why Ford hired him in the first place). so, while i wouldn't want him having anything to do w/ the program, i sorta like him saying good things.

I don't understand why anyone would hire him for anything football related ever again. I mean...he built an 0-16 team in an era of the NFL when no team should ever go 0-16. That is beyond incompetence....that is like mallicious incompetence.

Matt Millen did not make the Lions bad, they were already there.

It takes a special talent to inherit a bad situation and made it worse. I am convinced that anyone with a basic understanding of football and management could improve that situation.

I can't believe that any network would pay him to share his expertise. Then again I guess I am not that surprised... this is the same industry that pays Lee Corso and Lou Holtz.

When he took over the Lions, they were a field goal away from making the playoffs. And this was after a coach had just up and quit and the team was taken over by Moehler. Moehler got alot out of his players and what did he get in return....dangled on a leash by Millen..."Oh I may fire you or I may not...I don't know". So he brings Morningwheg in who did what exactly? 2 and 14 and 3 and 13. So then doofus' friend comes calling....who had a 15-28 record. And then we get Marinelli...10 and 38. Who actually got the closest to 500 at 7 and 9.

I don't like the way Millen handled Moeller because I think Moehler deserved a shot. I think he was a complete jerk about the situation. And Karma is a bitch. I hope Millen never has a shot again because 0-16 is monumental and that's all he should be remembered for.
