The legendary Michigan broadcaster Bob Ufer once referred to the typical Ohio Stadium crowd as "10,000 alumni and 74,000 truck drivers."Now it appears that our old friend Justin Boren just could not overcome his Ohio roots. At an early age he realized he wanted to be a Buckeye, and all that it entailed.
Check out page 19 of the 2009 Ohio State Football Media Guide: When I was younger, I dreamed of being a: Truck Driver.
You can't make this stuff up.

He also says, "If I were part of a circus....."
Justin, look around you. You're surrounded with the biggest bunch of clowns in college football, not to mention P. T. Barnum coaching on the sidelines. You ARE part of a circus.
Hmmmmm. 74,000 truck drivers vs. 74,000 unemployed truck makers shaking keys that don't go to anything. Classy.
Whet - Unfortunately we'll never obtain the class that goes along with standing around singing "Hang on Sloopy"
(the closer to kickoff the more barbs are flying)
"Unfortunately we'll never obtain the class that goes along with standing around singing 'Hang on Sloopy'"
True dat.
You will never obtain that class unless you add it to your curriculum as we did.
Speaking of classes, I signed up for the new class Harvard is offering: "How to Open Your Front Door Using Your House Key". I hope it somehow involves shaking your keys.
Harvard? Wow, the Michigan of the east.
I wonder if they're still offering the class:
"How to Become President Without Sacrificing Your Thug Status."
Seeing how his degree (if he gets one) will be from tosu, unless he makes the NFL, he may closer to realizing his dream of being a truck driver than you might guess.
The reality of the situation is that Boren is already works for his Dad as a truck driver - with a snow plow on the front.
So, you have something against truck drivers? You choose to denigrate those sacrificing souls that are the backbone of the American economy?
You may have swerved into THE consummate definition of elitist snobbery.
Tsk, tsk, tsk.
Whetstone...tread lightly when you start throwing jabs about the Prez...after all, his "Audacity of Hope" bio is UMs Bible...such as, "We HOPE that our two greatest assets, a punter and a S&C coach will help us win more than 3 games...we HOPE that said S&C coach will keep us all healthy and virtually eliminate injuries...we HOPE {hoink...hoink...hoink...we interrupt this entry to list a few of the current players with injuries: Toussant, Warren, Barnum, Gordon, Moundos, Z. Johnson.}
IIRC, Barfus was supposed to cure all of this. I know it is so, because practically ALL UM Blogs have been pouring that Kool-aid since he was hired. Is that something that will come in year 4 or 5? Go Buckeyes!
(great comments you guys. this thread is officially FUNNY)
AND we aren't denigrating truck drivers. We're just slamming truckers who sing "Hang on Sloopy"
And the sad truth of the matter is that most of those trucks were built somewhere besides Michigan! What you WILL see in Michigan are a bunch of poor unemployed UM grads standing around the umemployment office bragging about how much better it is to be an unemplayed Wolverine, than a gainfully employed, truck driving Buckeye!
"What you WILL see in Michigan are a bunch of poor unemployed UM grads standing around the umemployment office bragging about how much better it is to be an unemplayed Wolverine, than a gainfully employed, truck driving Buckeye!"
Geez Louise, now that was funny.
Like phil said, the season is almost upon us. Sharpen up those tongues and wit.
For the record, I like "Hang on Sloopy." It has a definite beat and I can dance to it. I'd give it a nine.
the truly ironic part of this that everyone missed is that when he was a youngster, he was a MICHIGAN fan, like his dad...
how sad is it that the fan base of a team that once had a player state that he owned a "fuck lion" and had another player arrested for masturbating on the porch of various women in Ann Arbor is trying to make fun of someone that said that as a youngster he wanted to be a truck driver.
Sru:
As always -- you missed the point.
I was not making fun of him because he wanted to become a truck driver. I like truck drivers. Hammm is a truck driver. Without truck drivers our lives would be very different.
I just thought it ironic that there was a Ufer connection there. If I didn't think that Boren was such a dolt, I would have guessed that he gave that answer in jest to endure himself to the OSU faithful.
Also, you can tell the season is getting closer now that Sru pulls out the Larry Harrison reference in almost every post.
My response: fans in glass houses should not throw stones, especially when the former residentsof that house includes Art Schlichter, Alonzo Spellman, Robert Reynolds, and Maurice Clarett.
Now now now a Package CAR is not considered a truck at all by road going laws. Therefore I have no CDL and nor will I ever in my future. Looks like a truck, drives like a truck, but it's considered a car.
Go figure.
Still need teams for Spawn FF. We're up to 5 I'd like to see at least 5 more teams.
A man turns to the guy next to him at a bar and asks..do you want to hear a OSU trucker joke?
The guy says..Buddy..I'm 6 feet 220 pounds, and I am a OSU trucker. You see the guy on the other side of you?..That's Bubba, he's 236 pounds of solid muscle and he's a OSU trucker too..And the guy next to him?..He's an OSU trucker who weighs 397..now do ya still wanna tell your OSU trucker joke?
The fella says..nope..I'd hate to have to explain it THREE times!!!
@Floridabuck. http://www.payscale.com/best-colleges/midwestern-colleges.asp. "Poor" and "unemployed": not so much. All those Gator fans must be getting to you.
How does an OSU truck driver find a sheep in tall grass?
Quite satisfying.
For those of you that did not follow the link that Hemlock provided...
According to Payscale.com, amongst Midwestern Universities: Michigan is tied for 10th (with The University of Chicago) for starting median salary.
THE Ohio State University is ranked 43rd. Just behind Wayne State.
BTW, I think I figured out a way to increase reader participation here. All Boren...All the time.
Andy- Besides Boren posts, you'd also get plenty of comments with the Sunday Swimsuit posts, but a lot of guys on here can't type with one hand.
(omg, did i say that? Please, someone start football season!)
Brian Cook just brought up a similar thread of consciousness.
http://mgoblog.com/content/patricia-heaton-best-ohio-state-grad-ever
Patricia Heaton could buy the state of Michigan. Try again.
Wait, I could buy the state of Michigan at the moment...from petty cash. Never mind.
@Hemlock...So, let me get this straight. You would be happier to be unemployed, knowing that if you COULD get a job, you would start at $51K, than if you DID have a job starting at $44K. I think I now realize why Michigan unemployment rate is 15% vs Ohio's 8.6%. Hopefully you can apply that same misguided logic to explain away another dismal football season. (Which BTW cannot get here soon enough!)
@ phil. I'll see your trucker joke and raise you one...
So, an unemployed UM trucker is walking down an alley, finds a UM Football letter jacket, and since it is chilly, he picks it up, puts it on, and walks around the corner and is immediately confronted by a couple of drunken MSU truckers, asking him if he would like to earn a few bucks by having sex with them. Proud as UM grads are wont to be, he refuses to answer and moves on. After having the same thing happen 3 or 4 more times with Penn Staters and Domers, he finally rips the jacket off, throws it in the nearest dumpster, and screams..."I FOUND that stinkin' letter jacket...I DIDN'T EARN IT!!!" Go Buckeyes
@FB, This may come surprise to you - but a having a Michigan degree does not confine you to the borders of the state for employment.
Speaking of misguided logic... correlating the salary data presented by Hemlock with a states overall unemployment rate is absurd.
"@FB, This may come surprise to you - but a having a Michigan degree does not confine you to the borders of the state for employment."
Oh. The ol' rats deserting the sinking ship analogy.
Nice.
andy - However...a kid wanting to be a Truck Driver when he grows up, has VERY much to do with football, right? I thought this blog was about Football. Perhaps you would enjoy a visit to this blog (that has yet to be created, but should be!) www.UMisBetterThanTOSUunlessYouAre

Whet says "Wait, I could buy the state of Michigan at the moment...from petty cash."
Hey, we're not like some cheap Ohio politician that you're always buying.
(an further more, Michigan is a beautiful state, unlike Ohio which fell out of the Ugly Tree and hit every branch on the way down.)
Andy - "Speaking of misguided logic... correlating the salary data presented by Hemlock with a states overall unemployment rate is absurd."
That is the very point of some of my posts...it is as misguided, and irrational, as the ever so frequent arguments I read on UM Football blogs. Our football team is somehow better because we have higher/bigger/better... (you name it) and the fact that TOSU has owned us recently and we went 3-9 last year, and lost to Appy, and have a rawkin' S&C coach who says he was MMA (although NO ONE has seen 1 stat, video, or pic to back that up) and some of our players that we loved 2 years ago have left us, and more are leaving just like all of those UM Grads that are finding gainful employment outside of Michigan...none of that matters! Because...WE ARE UM! (Oh wait, that has already been taken>)
Go Buckeys!
i may not have mentioned this recently, but...
our maid went to tosu
But, phil, your politicians have been bought for a long time. Look how well they're doing for your "beautiful" state. Isn’t Dingleberry one of your boys? Those cats in Detroit are in a league all their own.
I really can't argue the beauty of one state vs. the other. I’ve never been to Michigan. I was in Ohio when I was seven. It was pretty...pretty flat. Not used to that.
Those who have given me a first-hand description of your state are FROM Michigan. They left because it was dreary and cold. I guess dreary and cold can be beautiful--fits the description of SiC's first wife.
This is getting too easy. You know it's almost kick-off time when tempers are on a hair-trigger.
I surely hope we don't lose to Navy. That would be unbearable.
Surrounded - you have a truck driver for a maid?
phil,
SiC likes it when she smacks him with the tire thumper.
Cold and dreary nine months out of the year left SiC vulnerable to some weird experimentation when he was in college.
whet - i figure a few more years of global warming and we'll be the miami beach of the midwest.
(I know it's hard for you to see the scenery from your jail cell, but go to the prison library and get the National Geographic issue CXVII and checkout the Michigan landscape. It will be worth your time.)
phil,
A good suggestion, but it won't work. Like you, I can never get past the pictures of the native chicks.
SiC...I can only hope that you are paying your OSU maid the median starting salary of $44K /yr! :-)
Go Buckeyes...Beat Navy (cross my fingers)
@FB

If you come here looking for only college football talk, you are going to be disappointed. This place was created to continue the legacy of the original MZone. We mostly just try to have fun here. Sure, football is a large part of the discussion, but not the entire structure. I will admit – on this blog sometimes make fun of our rivals. On the other hand, sometimes we laugh at ourselves. If you can’t take Michigan fans jabbing at Ohio State, this is not a place I recommend you visit.
it is as misguided, and irrational, as the ever so frequent arguments I read on UM Football blogs.
It appears to me that you are holding us accountable for the actions of others. I guarantee you that both sides can find irrational internet personalities. If you think that posting here will somehow convince me to "see the light" and become a card carrying member of the buckeye nation, you are going to again be disappointed. I love my school. Period. We could lose every game of the 2009 season and I will still love my school. We could lose to the bucks for the next 30 years in a row, and I will still love my school.
Our football team is somehow better because we have higher/bigger/better... (you name it)
I challenge you to read each and every one of our 601 posts over the last 14 months. If you can find one post were T9 and/or I made the claim that Michigan’s football team was better than Ohio State – I will immediately publish a post listing the top 10 reasons why Ohio State’s football program is better than Michigan’s. It does not take a rocket scientist (or a Michigan degree) to recognize that Tressel has built a superior program right now. That fact does not mean your rivals will bow down forever.
One final word on this.
Ohio's unemployment rate is 11.2% not the 8.6% previously stated by our new friend FloridaBuck.
woo hoo. Touchy, touchy.
For some reason I feel the need to play "Be True to Your School," by the Beach Boys.
Andy, T9 and all other offended bloggers on this site. I would LOVE to apologize to each and every one of you, in person if possible, if I have somehow offended anyone, in any way! There was nothing...I repeat, nothing, that I said that was meant to disparage UM or it's many illustrious alumni in any way. I love this site and have really enjoyed the give and take between the various(basically two)factions. I especially enjoy the jabs, and I can ensure you that everything I said was done in the spirit of FUN! I suppose I cannot understand why "Justin, look around you. You're surrounded with the biggest bunch of clowns in college football, not to mention P. T. Barnum coaching on the sidelines. You ARE part of a circus." is funny, and my post is not.
However, if I was playing too rough, I once again apologize... seriously. I will be nice from henceforth, and will try to bring my level of humor up to at least the level of BlueSteel earlier in this post. Go Buckeyes!
@Andy "Ohio's unemployment rate is 11.2% not the 8.6% previously stated by our new friend FloridaBuck."
My Bad! I swear that was an honest mistake on my part. I apparently grabbed something from 2008. I was going to paste in the link, but, alas I did not. Nothing like providing the bullets for my own firing squad! ;-|
Go Buckeyes!
@FB
Apology accepted... we can now return to our regularly scheduled kidney punches.
@Andy...I know you are, but what am I? LOL
Meanwhile, I am scouring past blogs to find that one obscure blog of your's or T9's claiming... "Michigan’s football team was better than Ohio State – I will immediately publish a post listing the top 10 reasons why Ohio State’s football program is better than Michigan’s."
I want to see that list, because I can only think of about 4-5 things!
Go Buckeyes!
Bring it on
Tressel being the classy guy that he is will only put 49 points on Navy. Yet he will still be running passing plays in the 3rd quarter. About halfway into the 4th quarter, he will take his first string out. Or something like that.
