Et Tu Toney ?

I never really thought much about Toney Clemons after he was unable to convince Terrelle Pryor use his talents for good rather than evil. As far as I was concerned, he was just another guy with some really talented cousins. His production over 2 years on the team support that perspective.

In general, I love getting recruits from Pennsylvania (because it pisses Penn State fans off) -- except in this case he was not even recruited by the Nittany Lions. I watched his recruiting highlight video (yes, the one he calls himself Baby Jesus) and laughed when I saw him dance on the field. High School football stars do stupid things in their own fishbowls.

In the midst of our 3 win nightmare, Toney Clemons was there. He got yelled at. He played a little bit and eventually got buried on the depth chart by more talented players. When he decided to transfer and "take his blessings and gifts elsewhere"... I chalked it up to yet another event in the RR transition chaos.

But yesterday Toney Clemons re-emerged in my conciseness with this:

I truly don't want to be associated with the program back there. But I am going to help benefit my teammates back there by speaking and giving testimony.

Wow. Sounds like a jilted lover. I don't want to add to the heaping pile of crap and scorn this kid has brought upon himself -- but I want to know a couple of things.

1) How exactly is Toney Clemons going to remain dis-associated with the program ?
2) How exactly is Toney Clemons going to help his former teammates by giving testimony designed to injure the program they play for ?

he's going to help them, in his mind, by admitting to the excess workouts in hopes that the violations will stop and their welfare will be taken into consideration.

phil said...

sru - kind of similar to how Clarett accused tUOS administrators of lying. At least in that case he was trying to help the university.

Andy said...

So he is looking to reduce the toughness of the workouts ?

srudoff said...

phil - clarett never said he was trying to help - clemons did

nice try though

(not really)

Andy - not sure if he means the toughness or the duration and frequency

Andy said...

Sru:

I am sure everyone here appreciates your concern for the Michigan Student-Athlete when it comes to the "duration and frequency" of their workouts.

Obviously the full extent of your understanding of this story is what you read in the Free Press.

Be glad you root for a team that has the hearts and minds of the local newspaper reporters locked up.

whetstonebuck said...

Personally, I wouldn't trust anyone who misspells "Toney."

whetstonebuck said...

Maybe it's the endgame on picking up Les Miles.

srudoff said...

hey i have no concern for anything michigan

just trying to answer your questions about what toney might be trying to say

Corey said...

first it was Drew Sharp ... stopped reading him a long time ago

Now I can add Synder and Rosenberg ... in fact I've contacted the Free Press about my discontent and to let them know I'll take my business elsewhere.

Crickets.

Andy said...

Whet : if you think this is somehow a "constructed" process to enable Michigan to hire Les Miles - I have some land in Antarctica you should look at.

The Les Miles ship has sailed. This is nothing more that a decaying newspaper with an agenda looking to sell as many copies as they can.

If the Columbus Dispatch ran this type of crap about the Buckeyes -- the good citizens of Columbus would burn the building down.

whetstonebuck said...

C'mon, Andy. All Ann Arbor is missing at this point is a good conspiracy theory.

Also, are you saying Buckeye fans are more passionate than UM key jinglers? Be still, my beating heart.

Andy said...

More passionate... maybe.
Better felons... certainly.

LOL @ Rich Rod practically crying at the press conference

Bigasshammm said...

What a disaster. If they lose Sat the entire football staff should be on suicide watch. It's never good when you're sitting in an office buying a new car and your phone goes off and it's your sister telling you M coach was just on TV crying.
Ugh

In a fitting way my WV :: winee

srudoff said...

in defense of richrod, those tears were totally fake - so he technically wasn't crying in his presser

i felt like i was watching some bad acting on Univision

The ugliness quotient is moving up.

Like Hamm, my wv has significance:

"hydru." As in water works.

I think Toney (the snitch) Clemons is just setting himself up for a future assistant coaching position at tUOS. Tressel loves weasels like that.

Interesting that most of the comments here are from tOSU fans. Actually, interesting may be the wrong word, how about annoying.

It is clear, the Free Press is out to smear Michigan every chance they have, even to the point of digging up crap which in turn, they misrepresent. Sad that our "local" media is unethical.

Catie,
pretty ironic, isn't it? for years tosu fans have gone around denying or down playing tosu's multiple ncaa investigations and resulting violations, complaining about the "hatchet jobs" they received from the NY Times and ESPN, and turning a blind eye to player arrest after arrest.

to listen to them now, you'd think they lived in a glass house?

and sadly, when this is all said and done and nothing comes of these allegations? no one is going to publish headlines about how the program really didn't do anything wrong after all.

Rosenberg has, in his columns, targeted R2 since he was hired. he has written a highly critical or negative column pretty much monthly. last month it was "R2's 'win at all costs' approach a bad fit for Michigan". this month it's this empty 'too much practice' story. next month it will be something akin to "4-0 Start Just Hollow Victories" or the like.

Rosenberg isn't going to stop pissing on R2. However, after a few wins, most people will stop reading him.

Sru,

The fact that Jay Mariatti predicts that RR won't last long fills me with a confidence that this will all blow over and many of those piling on look foolish in th end.

Jay epitomizes everything I detest about the talking heads in sports. And he's almost always wrong, particularly when he full-on-blasts someone. He's about as credible to me as Jim Carty was with his UM academic scandal that went nowhere and ended the best possible way: within a year Carty 'quits' and the ann arbor news dies a quiet tearless death.

Thanks for the pick me up.

Hey Sic -

Osu was exonerated completely with all of the Clarett allegations by the NCAA. And this was with the NCAA up our asses for over a year on campus. How many michigan fans take that into consideration?

None

How many websites or newspapers printed retractions or apologies?

None

It is what it is.

GH - Mariotti is an ass clown. But he's national media so it's just an indicator that the story is reaching beyond the freep.

who said anything about clarett??

how about the 2nd post in this very thread?

or on michigan forums everywhere?

funny that your third link is about osu basketball - after you talk about osu fans living in glass houses

honestly you make this too easy

surrounded in columbus said...

actually, the third link concluded w/ a paragraph about the NCAA finding of a violation for Troy Smith taking a $500 gift from a booster.

it was at the end of the article though, so i suppose your lips were probably tired from reading so many words (and some big ones, too) and you gave up before you got to it.

srudoff said...

so all the ones you posted were self reported by ohio state then

nice

better than reacting to newspaper/websites finding them first huh

surrounded in columbus said...

sure, sometimes they self report. sometimes they don't:

"honestly you make this too easy" ~ SRU

Honestly, I think that Andy and T9 make it too easy for tOSU fans to come here and dish on Michigan. This IS a Michigan football blog. I think we have the ability to laugh at ourselves, at the same time, there is a line of loyalty that just shouldn't be crossed.

srudoff said...

hahahahahha

and we're back to clarett : )

surrounded in columbus said...

no, but close. we're back to over zealous (and slightly unethical) news reporting creating a stir about allegations that eventually prove empty.

at least that was "Pulp Fiction"esque symmetry i was shooting for...

phil said...

Yeah guys, quit picking on Clarett. Ohio State committed almost two-thirds of the Big Ten's Level I recruiting violations (13 out of 21 for the entire conference) during the 2007-08 school year. We can't blame that on Clarett.

whetstonebuck said...

How 'bout them Arizona Wildcats.

Can you all go back to Ohio and stay there please? I'm sick of you poisonous nuts polluting our state. At least the Tigers can deal with teams from Ohio.....

But I guess I know why they are hanging out on a Michigan blog. The one guy in the State of Ohio that could figure out this Internet thing died....

As a victim. Sounds like he got screwed in a ponzi scheme. He needs to get in line behind Kevin Bacon et al.

whetstonebuck said...

SiC,

Not even a chuckle? Man, I thought that was pretty funny. Sigh.

phil said...

People - please quit posting on this thread. NCAA regulations clearly state no posting 48 hrs after a post when there is more than 30 responses of which 11 or more come from the opposition. It is also against NCAA regulations to post when certain "observers" are present within this internet continuum. Now, since I violated the NCAA standards I will see myself off to jail, unless I can play for tUOS, then all is forgiven and forgotten. Amen.

A busload of attorneys crashed off a bridge and all aboard were killed. The sad news was that there were two empty seats on the bus. I do feel bad for the driver.

The sharks in the water below the bridge did not molest the bodies--professional courtesy.

There are skid marks in front of the skunk.
