One of the changes delivered to Michigan Stadium since RR's arrival is the post-game "The Victors" celebration. Not many people noticed it last year, because we only won two home games. After the game, before they head into the tunnel, the entire team gathers in front of the student section and everyone sings while the band plays. To put it kindly, the Michigan crowd culture is basically adverse to any change. I am an old guy/alumni, and I officially approve of this change.

I love it! It gives the students a chance to show their pride in the team and the team a chance to show their appreciation to the student section, who obviously lead the crowd in cheering the team on during the game.
Something that is not new that is also really cool: as the student section exits the stadium, they are singing "it's.....great.....to be.....a Michigan Wolverine....." As the event staff high five the students as they exit.
Catie.. the "it's.....great.....to be.....a Michigan Wolverine....." chant has been part of the band tradition forever. After the bandshow, they set up in formation and march out of the tunnel and this is one of several chants included as they march out. I sit on the other side of the stadium from the students and was not aware that they did this with the event staff. I like it.
I didn't realize it was a band tradition, that is cool. The students also sing it to the players after the game when they all come over. The statement is on my facebook in the little box that you use to make a statement about yourself, because, it IS great to be a Michigan Wolverine!! :)
It's a nice tradition to start. I noticed it when I went to the Eastern game and I thought it was pretty cool. Way cooler than shouting "You suck" after the third down (gah, I hate my memory at times because for the life of me I can't remember the song....)
Mik... the song is "Temptation" and I also hate the "you suck" yell. It does not display the proper sportsmanship. I know I will hear about how it is just kids having fun but it is still not the proper thing to do. I am not sure if anyone else has even noticed but they have stopped announcing the starting lineups prior to the game. That was another thing I did not like when the other team was introduced they would yell "who cares".
I agree. The "you suck" thing is embarrassing.
Just watched College Football Live and their "Heisman Trophy Predictor" which they say has been 100% accurate the last 3 years has Tate listed in 3rd. Nice to see him getting some love for doing what comes naturally to him.
Mikoyan.. After I left my note about tempation, I did some research and thought everyone would be interested in this. It mentions the Michigan marching band and I thought that was pretty cool.

I agree, the "you suck" thing does not represent Michigan well. (They were saying worse when we were playing ND)
A bit off track here, but I just checked the BCS poll and Michigan at 4=0 is not ranked in the top 25, but Michigan State 1-3 is listed at 18. WTF?????? Coaches poll has Michigan at 20 and the AP has us at 22 and neither of those has State ranked in the top 25.
Catie.... The BCS rankings for 2009 have not even started yet. They do not start until later in the season. You were looking at the rankings from last December sometime.
Just remember, you can't spell BCS without BS.
I thought it was "Temptation" but I couldn't remember if it was that or the Hawaiian War Chant. Ah well...thanks. I love that song.
Yea BCS poll comes out after week 8. I totally agree with Michigan not making a move in the polls this week. Had they come out and destroyed Indiana we'd see them probably more near 15. I hope Indiana gives TUOS a game and doesn't just lay an egg which I expect them to do.
What a relief, I was all up in arms about that darn poll! I actually thought it was 6 weeks when it came out. I have an AP College Football Application for my iphone and it gives me the AP poll, the Coaches and the BCS, so I was checking them and wasn't thinking, It doesn't say 2008 on it! And it gave Michigan States current win/loss record. Anyway, thanks for "talking" me down! :)
One of the only nice things about a 3 win season is how it re-calibrates what is important with your team.
I just don't care anymore about polls and "style point" wins. The fact we beat Indiana in a close game is no longer clouded by regret because "we didn't play well". A win is a win.
The only thing that I care about at this point with this team is winning games.
Sometime about the time that USC won the AP poll and I forget who won the "real" Championship was about the time I stopped caring about the BSC. The main reason that the Big Ten and Pac-10 joined the BCS was to avoid the situation in 1997 where Nebraska won the coaches poll and Michigan won the AP poll. The BCS was supposed to avoid that situation. Since that situation happened, the BCS is about as meaningless as the polls it replaced.
I think the National Championship is based on too many things that are out of the control of various programs, so I think the only important thing for Michigan to do is win the Big Ten since that is the one thing they do have control of. I mean look at all the teams that go undefeated and know they have no shot at a championship because they don't come from one of the annointed conferences.
And as much as I would love to see a playoff, I just don't see how it is feasible especially if it is based on the current formulas.
