5 turnovers. Ouch. Freshmen are still freshmen. Tate proved he was human. Denard ensured he will continue to get a series every once in a while. Personally, I would have put Tate back in for the last drive, but I understand why RR went with Denard. We are gonna be fine after we learn a couple of hard lessons about ball security.
Overall, I can't say I am too disappointed. It wasn't like I was expecting a win. We had a chance at the end, which was more than we deserved. The defense took a big step forward today. Woolfolk did fine at corner. We need to find a safety or two if we are gonna compete. The goal is still six wins. Gotta get Delaware State and Purdue.
Lions get to face the uniformed NFL twins of Iowa tomorrow. It won't be as close.

Mmmmm that's good healing.
I'm afraid last night we saw a side of RR that we're stuck with for a while. I've never liked that he's always so angry on the sidelines and yelling at the kids. I like that he's spirited but I think the aggression and yelling should be taken out on the referees and not the players he is trying to mold into football stars. It's clear that he was unhappy with Tate and Tate probably let him know that he was unhappy as well. Basically he talked back to his old man and was sent to his room. This is fine if it didn't possibly cost us the game. Why wasn't RR out there ripping Matthews head off for dropping an easy punt? Or Minor for fumbling again? Tate makes some bad decisions in the hardest position to play for the hardest scheme to run and he got tongue lashed and benched. Denard will not be ready to play QB at all this season for any given period of time. He lacks the poise and confidence that Tate has shown. I hope this doesn't continue into the season with RR benching players he's yelling at on the sidelines and thus costing more wins. If so I would not be surprised to see him out after the year and wouldn't be that disappointed really. RR really let me down this game.
Andy were you drinking and blogging again? hahaha
well..... yes
Coach Vince Lombardi arguably the greatest coach that ever lived was often known to [excuse my french] chew a new asshole for his players when they screwed up. He demanded greatness each and every moment on the field. Coach Bo was never known as a choir boy either with his players and he was known as a tough coach. I believe Coach Rod was cut from the same cloth when it comes to temperment. It doesn't bother me if my coach doesn't say please or thank you, as long as they get results. Michigan turned the ball over about five times in last nights game. Things were highly emotional at times and the most effective way to make your point is to make it as soon after the incident as possible. I've got no problem with his attitude on the sidelines.
I have to agree w/ VoR. These are kids & Tate is what? 19?
When you come off the field there are 3 acceptable responses: "yes sir", "no sir", & "I'll get it right next time sir". Anything else is a "wrong" answer.
Tate will learn that. The rest of these young players will learn it too. Seniors like Minor & Matthews already know it.
There's more at stake here than one game at Iowa in a season in which we're shooting for 7 or 8 wins & a trip to San Antonio. Tate's gonna need to be ready next year & beyond and these are lessons that will hopefully pay dividends not just next week, but in coming years.
True true. I'd rather have had the win though darnit.
Who is this minx writing on the chalkboard? I've tried to find more and have been unsuccessful.
BAH
I'm with you on that. This was more disappointing than last week for me. This week we played well enough to win & came up short.
On the bright side, we are coming into a 4 game stretch in which we'll be favored in 3, and a real shot against PSU in the 4th. If they improve from these road losses, we could have 7 or 8 wins heading into Wisco & tosu, playing with a lot of confidence. Or we could have only 6, playing on our heels. It's gonna be a real fun month.
Hamm
I don't know her name.
It really doesn't matter.
Not a bad photoshop job after a couple of beers and past midnight.
Oh yea.
Congrats to the Browns on the 6-3 win today.
Happy for the Iowa win, but now you see why Iowa fans are always hopeful, but constantly doubtful about the outcome of any game.
Didn't know Forcier was benched. I was sitting about 10 feet behind the end zone where Michigan was backed up and could see Tate was having throwing hand problems (hit a helmet on a follow through?) and then it looked like he had his bell rung after the 3rd down heave toward the Iowa sideline. So I thought he was injured. Instead, RR might want to have a talk with the coach that made Forcier stand there in the end zone amidst the howling crowd waiting forever for play calls. Pass plays even, when the O-line was opening holes for the running game all night.
As a Big Ten fan, it was very cool to see the winged helmets and tiger hawks under the lights. I think I read on this site (or the original MZone) there was a specific reason for no night games at Michigan Stadium, but I can't see how the UM Athletic staff can leave IC not trying to figure out a way to convince AA to let UM schedule a game, maybe next year's Iowa game at night. Way too much fun start to finish.
Best of luck on the rest of the season, thanks for an excellent KYF and '85 rewind.
