We don't need no stinkin' defense.Fun with numbers:
a) Michigan has the worst D in the Big Ten
b) We have been outscored 75-12 in the second half of the last THREE games
However.....
check out the comparison data. I've highlited the stuff that just makes no sense whatsoever.

So why am I so aggravated and frustrated by this team???
Because, as Brandon Graham points out, they ARE better than their 5-5 record.
They completely implode, making mental mistakes and blowing assignments. Ok, I'll give you that they are young but
why did Robinson sit Ezeh and Mouton for most of the first half???? Do they mail in it that much that the freshmen and
walk-ons behind them deserve to play more??? GACK if that's true. Where's the discipline and concentration?
It's like they are all trying to do way too much, instead of playing within the scheme.
Why is that? Here's my theory.....
RR's coaching is suspect. He is good at X's and O's --you can see flashes of brilliance when the offense clicks,
but he uses a "slap-sorry" style of management. How many times can he scream at his coaches without their
authority, credibility, and confidence being eroded? If you were a kid, would you want to watch your head coach
bust the balls of your position coach or coordinator? When would you lose confidence in the whole thing?
RR is also stubborn as shit. No sense of strategy---he just keeps calling the same shit over and over. There are
minimal adjustments at the half and because we play with a limited set of plays, once those are spent, the
other guys know exactly what we are going to do. Denard comes in for ONE play---and is stuffed. Why? Because
they've got a spy on him every time he steps on the field.....stoopid.
Purdue rightfully rolls their QB out and away from whichever side BG is on....play after play after play. Where's
the adjustment???? There isn't one. IT'S MADDENING. Didn't these guys play high school ball???
Ok, and so then I go back to the numbers. Which show a lot of scoring on the offense. And absolutely no defense.
And I try to say, oh they are young. Oh we need one more year. Oh don't pick on the kids.
But seriously......I just can't understand it.
Anyone else understand what the hell goes wrong every game???
Please enlighten me.....

You're under the curse. Just accept it and fewer people will get hurt.
You need to redo your numbers and take out the DSU game and your eyes will be open a little wider. Full season stats show Michigan as a pretty good team but when you had one game against a hs team where you had over 700 yards of offense and 60+ points those are going to inflate your stats. They also help the defensive stats too as they held them to only 3 points and Idk how little offense but I'm sure it wasn't much.
Mongo feels very bad about my favorite teams season but there isn't much I can do -
Mongo only pawn in game of life.
Hey, Mongo!
Say "hi" to your alter-ego, Lloyd, for me.
wv = "drogo." Mongo's twin brother.
Sometimes this is just too easy.
Hedley Lamarr: Qualifications?

Hedley Lamarr: That's not much of a crime.

The coaching is highly suspect. I have been an RR supporter from the start and even I am questioning the play calling after the last 2 games. Why Purdue EVER ran a running play against us is amazing, since it was evident that they could throw at will against our defense (defensive ends may as well not shown up for the game). It is quite sad, because "getting rid" of RR only puts us back another 2-3 years. Keeping him, we take a chance that he can pull it off, however, it may only mean that instead of being behind 2-3 years more, it would be more like 5-6 years. Truly a conundrum.
I say, if no NCAA violations come and we beat tOSU, RR will keep his job another year. If there are NCAA violations and we lose to tOSU, the search begins. It is even possible that if there are NCAA violations, even minor ones, that might be enough for Mary Sue to pink slip him.
No matter what, I am not a fair weather fan and I STILL say, It is great to be a Michigan Wolverine and I support the kids 100%.
Can I also say......the Big Ten Zebras SUCK and have no balls. (pardon my french).
Whets: What's a basement?
Crowd: phil's natural inclination!
Andy T9 I put together a followup post to this and sent it via Spawnmail. It'll need some expertise from one of you to turn it into a full fledged post but all the research and video links are there.
BAH--
you are completely right about the DSU stats confounding everything
as Andy can attest: I am no good at math
BAH,
I didn't get it via spawnmail, can you send it to me?
thank you in advance.
Rich wasn't my choice and wouldn't have ever been. Good thing I don't get a say. I'd have went with English or Hoke. This is if I couldn't get the riverboat gambler Les Miles. Whats the fix? I think Denard is more apt to fit our spread. I wonder if Taters hands are to small in the cold and wet. Ive never been one to count stars but uhh wtf? Drew Dileo? Where are we going? I think the bus driver is lost. Think I'll post this at Brians and get negged to hell and gone.
Yes, there are red flags, but...
Overall, we are better than last year...not always better than last week, but better than last year. I believe we'll be better next year.
We've scored 30 points in every game but one. That should be enough no matter when they are scored. I hate the second half disparity as much as the next guy, but if you can't keep the other team from scoring 30...you don't deserve to win.
I don't know enough about schemes and formations to criticize what RR or Robinson are calling, but I do know you can't make a silk purse from a sow's ear. We don't have the personnel in the defensive backfield no matter what genius schemes are dreamed up.
Don't forget we're also starting (two) true freshmen at QB. Tate has shown flashes, and Denard has struggled...but they're still freshmen and no amount of coaching will change that. You cannot replace experience with education.
It's been a bit of an ugly process, but it reminds me of a mural artist I worked with once. His tools were a little unorthodox (airbrishes and paper towels mostly) and the middle stages made me think I'd wasted a whole lot of money. Those middle stages had me thinking of how I was going to get him to fix it or how to replace him, but in the end...the final product was amazing. I can't help but draw the hopeful parallel here.
Forgive my naive optimism, but two years just isn't enough time to judge RR, no matter what others have accomplished. Every circumstance is unique. I still have high expectations, but I'm willing to wait a little longer to see them met. YMMV
616 I emailed the post to the Spawn's email so that T9 or Andy can jazz it up a little bit then post it on the Spawn. I'm hoping it gets up soon. I also just sent in the FF update for the week.
Tom C I don't see how Denard is a better fit. He can't pass at all and has just as much difficulty holding onto the ball as Tate does. Tate's problems with fumbles are the way he carries the ball. With another year of practice and "hopefully" the coaches focusing on securing the ball he should be much better. I also think the incoming QB Gardner will eventually be better than both of them. He may not be as accurate a passer as Tate but he almost has Denard's speed in a LBer sized body. He will also be enrolling early and everyone neg bangs the hell out of me at Mgoblog for saying this but he will be the second string QB next year. RR cannot afford to put a redshirt on him while his coaching career is in jeopardy. Look for Denard to be moved to slot or some weird tailback/Wr hybrid. Or he may just leave the team but I don't see anyway he plays QB next year unless Gardner decommits or they do throw a redshirt on him.
Jim
amen, brother.
