Gameday 2009 - Army Navy Game

I am going to be busy with yet another week of Texas High School football playoffs. If you have never watched the NAVY/ARMY game, do yourself a favor and watch. There are no NFL prospects. These guys play football simply because they love the game.

Go Navy!!!
Beat Army AGAIN

I listened to the game as I went out photographing.

Navy went!!!!! Took them long enough to do it though.

You're not quite right though...every so often someone will come up to the NFL from one of the academies.

Yes, every once in a while there is a NFL prospect. Given the military commitment neither school is able to recruit the best players in the country.

With the win, Navy has beaten Army 8 straight years. It wasn't always like this. But the program has been rolling with the option attack since Paul Johnson (now at Georgia Tech) came to the school in 2002. This year will be their 5th straight bowl season.

Their system negates the size difference they face almost every week. It takes smart disciplined players to run it, and Navy has that. They almost took down Ohio State this year. The fact that Navy beat Notre Dame twice in the last three years is simply incredible.

That is why I wish Paul Johnson would have come up in the names to replace Lloyd. If he can take a program like Navy and make it competitive, I can't imagine what he would do with a program like Michigan. And the option is not that far off the running game that Michigan has traditionally run. Ah well.

Yeah, I can't believe it's been 8 years in a row for Navy. That is unheard of in this rivalry given that until Navy's recent strech of wins, it was pretty close to 500. I think before that, the streak was 5 games by Army.

Once Army get's an offense under it they should be competitive with their new coach. Their defense was stellar but was on the field way way too much.
