Dynasty ?

For those of you that have not seen it, here is this weeks Sports Illustrated cover. This my friends is the SEC PR MACHINE running without a restrictor plate. Somewhere, Gary Danielson is pleasuring himself like a fourteen year old boy holding the annual SI swimsuit edition.

I am no expert, but I am pretty sure a team needs to win more than one straight championship to be considered a "Dynasty". I don't remember the 2001 Baltimore Ravens or the 2003 Florida Marlins ever being awarded this type of praise. Sure, Alabama had a nice team this year, but after the BCS game I am not convinced they are the BEST team in the country. Yes, I said it.

Maybe the good folks from Sports Illustrated meant to put "Lucky". As in.... considering they allowed a true freshman QB to hang late into the 4th quarter, Alabama sure is lucky that Colt McCoy was injured in the BCS title.

I agree. I think they escaped with their skin. They weren't the better team.

I predict two losses for Simpson Tribe next year.

LUCKY????

Alabama is lucky that Rich Rod didn't take thier job when it was offered. Or should I say his wife wouldn't let him.

Furthermore, before you start badmouthing me or belittling my comment realize that I was born and raised in the state of Michigan, and have always been a diehard Michigan fan.

My wife, however, is a rabid 'Bammer', and is in fact gnawing on my a@@ right now.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I happen to belive that Bama would have lost by 10 if Colt McCoy had been able to play. I understand injuriess are part of the game, but Saban knows he caught a break.

The real question I have is : have you asked your wife to gnaw on your backside - or does she just do that when the mood is right?

do we need another One-peat billboard?

Bama won the big game and that's all they needed to do. I agree with Andy that Colt McCoy would have made a huge difference. I also agree that they may not have been the best team in the country but they won when they needed to when others didn't.

Hemlock... "but they won when they needed to when others didn't." No one is disagreeing with that fact, but there was still some luck involved that allowed that to happen. The bigger question Andy seems to be asking is how does that translate into them becoming a "dynasty"?

220.... I wish Rich Rod would have taken that job and not come to Michigan. Never liked him and never will but I still love Michigan and so I am giving him a chance to show us something this year. I am just afraid that if he does not do well and they dump him, it may take several more years to rebuild again. As bad as things have been over the last couple years I have stayed and watched every minute of every home game and all of them on tv as well.

GBB - Of course they shouldn't be considered a "dynasty".

maybe SI meant "Dynasty" as in reference to the '80's ABC prime time soap produced by Aaron Spelling?

i could see Nick Saban playing the role of a revamped "Blake Carrington" (instead of John Forsythe) in a TV revival!

the real trick would be casting someone to play "Crystal" who was short enough that Saban wouldn't have to stand on a box for all his scenes (just how tall is Layla Kiffen???).

I also want RichRod to succeed but have never been convinced that his style of play would work in the Big 10. I am concerned that while at WV he routinely won games 45-38, basically having to win a shoot-out every week. I am old school - I want a smash mouth defense that will win on days when the offense is not clicking. In poor conditions this is the style of play that wins consistantly.

As for Alabama, maybe Texas should work on their run defense and actually develop their own running game to give themselves a better chance to win. They were sunk by not playing anyone else besides Colt in order to pad his stats. Alabama let up in the 3rd, started playing vanilla on both offense and defense, and nearly gave the game away. They are a business-like team that always does just enough to put their opponents away. You can count on the same outcome no matter who their opponent would have been in the championship game.
