On October 1st 1977, the 5th ranked Texas A&M Aggies made a rare trip north of the Mason Dixon Line to play the 3rd ranked Wolverines.Michigan had started the season ranked #1 but they had been so unimpressive in beating Duke 21-9 and Navy 14-7 that they were demoted to third. Texas A&M was coming into Ann Arbor after an impressive win against Texas Tech in Lubbock. Most everyone expected Rick Leach's Wolverines to get rolled. It did not quite happen that way.
Michigan led 7-3 at halftime. They came out of the tunnel in the second half and produced 34 unanswered points to win 41-3. Of course WolverineHistorian has highlights on YouTube: 1st Half and 2nd Half.
Hail.

I am showing my age here, but I remember being at that game. Nice job on the wallpaper too Andy.
Is there a game you haven't been to Bob?
Jealous I am.
If it means anything to either one of you, I remember watching this one on TV. It was one of first Michigan games I ever remember watching start to finish. It was also the game that I became a M fan.
I was in 6th grade.
I wasn't even conceived yet if that means anything.
Lol.
Leach is the qb that I first remember really rooting for. I was 15, seven years after UM tried so hard to save my right eye. They later went on to save both of my youngest daughters eyes. Hail.
Wow Tom C. Intrigued by your story. If ever you'd like to divulge more perhaps we could have a "UM moments of heroism" post.
Hammm... I have only missed about five or six home games since 1976 and watched or listened on the radio (all games were not televised that long ago) to all of the away games. Our group has also been on road trips to several other big televen cities and I have been to seven or eight bowl games. All you young guns make me feel old. Being a Michigan fan helps keep me young. You have been to our tailgate and met our "tailgate family" and I know you understand how much fun we have. As everyone knows... It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine!
man i wish i could go 6 for 18 passing and get my own Spawn wallpaper!!!
Sru
I am pretty sure I can arrange that for you.
Hammmm one day I'll write out why I'm a wolverine, but seeing the many people I've dealt with and coming on here and watching Catie, one couldn't help but root for them.
That was the first Michigan game I ever attended. I was 9.
IIRC, A&M only crossed the mid-field stripe into Michigan territory TWICE the entire game.
Watching the video highlights from Wolverine Historian was quite a flashback.
Even without last names on the backs of the players' jerseys, I was still able to remember most of those starters on O and D.
The crowd at the stadium back then seemed jacked up in every section - not just a select few sections as is standard today.
I miss seeing the long streamers of toilet paper sailing across the students section after a score.
I miss the tenacity of a BO defense (defense wins championships), and the well disciplined offensive front line that never, EVER seemed to jump offsides - especially during a long cadence from Leach.
I miss hearing the band during the game.
Looking forward:
Denard Robinson is too damn fast not to be on the field SOMEWHERE on every down. He cannot sit on the sidelines for 2/3 of every game, going forward. That would be a @#$%^&* sick waste of God given talent.
FWIW, I saw him walking into one of the Athletic halls last week while I drove down State St.
The kid was all smiles just walking down the sidewalk, and looked no worse for the wear during his first Michigan winter "up north". After a few of the more-hyped Texas boys headed back home after a brief stint in Ann Arbor, it was good to see him look more than happy to be there on a cold, overcast winter afternoon. Probably doesn't hurt that he's smoking everyone on the indoor track right now either.
On April 17, 1982 I attended my first (and only) Spring Game - sitting in the Press Box on my 14th b-day. With the Spring Game falling on my birthday again this year, I believe I'll be celebrating #42 with friends and family at the Big House. Can't wait.
