Winter Olympics: Let the games begin !!!

Love the pageantry and the individual stories and drama.
Sports' own Soap Opera!? Lots to follow and poke fun at, I'm sure.
I'll be your roving reporter (from the warm confines of home) during these next few weeks.

How many days til football??????

Sigh,

Quadrennial sports marathon for white people. Oh, the humanity!

Holy Douglas Fairbanks!

Not sure which is cooler- the Mounties in full dress unis or the voice of the 16 year old jazz singer?

I love the Canadian national anthem. But she did not sing it The right way.

The remake of "we are the world" was cute - but not anywhere near the 1985 version. I am glad they left Michael Jackson in place. No one should have to stand on his place.

Canada has never won a gold at home? Wow.

Love the Polo ski coats & the mooses on the hats for the US teams. Team Canada hats pretty cool too.

No arguing about Norway though I thought there were was a pretty cute Dutch contingent & the green eyed ginger carrying the flag for Ireland was stunning.

She was ok, her eyes were too far apart. I have my own Irish princess with properly placed eyeballs.

I loved the fact that Ireland is the only country between Iran and Israel. Crazy.

Lol'd.

Only a man who already HAS a red haired princess would turn that one away because of the distance between her eyes. You'll have to forgive the judgment of those of us less blessed.

Anyone else think this ceremony is so stereotypically Canadian? I mean, I know it is supposed to be about their culture, but it is just so hilarious how they talked about being more than beer and fishing, and please and thank you. That was awesomely Canuck! Oh Canadians.

Canadians are just like everyone else...only more so.

I went to Vancouver once. Well, not really, but I did see pictures of it in a travel magazine. I went to the Olympics once. Well, not really, but I did watch it on TV. I really need to get out more often.

I used to work for a company based in Vancouver. Spent a lot of time up there. It is very nice.

The drive from downtown to Whistler is incredible, but I don't know how fun it will be with all the traffic headed up to the mountain for the alpine events.
