Dallas sucks. the Cowboys suck. The Stars suck. The Longhorns suck (granted they are not from Dallas but still...). The Rangers suck. the Mavericks suck. The only thing that sucks more than Dallas is Columbus.
I'll call Denver the big D before I'll call Dallas the big D. Hell, Duluth rates more of a big D than Dallas....:)
That's actually not a bad idea. One of the problems with Detroit is that all the empty buildings provide an attractive nuisance for bums and what not. So farmland may not be a bad idea. Although, I hate to see them tear down some of the buildings immediately downtown though.
I worked for GM at the RenCen for several years and really like the downtown area. The New Center area is also fairly nice. I also worked there for GM at the old GM building. Most of the other areas are not so nice but all big cities have that issue. This photo of the downtown area is a very positive image of the city. As a natural born citizen of the U.S. who happens to have been born in Detroit, I am very comfortable calling it the big D. I do not like the Dallas football team but love the city and have been there many times for work. Maybe next time I am there I can meet up with that "natural born citizen of the sovereign republic of Texas" and let him buy me a beer.
Maybe I can meet up with whets in Austin and he can buy me a breakfast taco?????
The ND athletic director should not be worried about siesmic changes in the football world. Charlie is not there walking around campus anymore. He is probably in Austin eating breakfast tacos by the dozen.
I love Detroit but yes there are parts of it I would not go to. I hate to see it in such a state of disrepair. If you follow my photography blog, I deliberately try to avoid taking pictures of the crap building and places that are around the city because there is alot of lovely architecture in the city that isn't in a state of disrepair. I think it is sad that the city that basically saved the world from Nazi and Communist tyranny is in such a state. Yes, some of that can be blamed on the arrogance of the auto industry but there are several other underlying issues.
As for Texas, I probably shouldn't lump all Texans together with the two products of Texas that I am familiar with....GWB and LBJ but well perception is alot. Then factor in a team that calls itself America's Team...well you get an impression of a bunch of "me first" folks. So to the Texans on this forum, I do apologize. I will try not to lump you in with those folks.
I can not say for certain because I did not shoot the picture - but based on what I know about shooting city sky lines, this looks like two images merged. You are right, the exposure is just too perfect.
As you know it is not hard to do once you learn the Photoshop technique.
I hate those shots where you have a perfectly exposed moon and a perfectly exposed skyline because when I try it, one or the other is not well exposed. If I set the camera for the moon, the skyline is under exposed. If I set the camera for the skyline, the moon looks like a gaseous blob in the sky. Sometimes I wish my camera had the button I could push in my film camera where I could advance it without the film.
I really should pick up a copy of Photoshop though. Right now I have Gimpshop, while it's nice there seems to be some stuff you can do in photoshop that it can't do.
Actually, this is MY photo (http://www.bobbyalcott.com), and you have no rights to repost it at this size - much less redistribute it.
It's one thing to blog it ay 640x480 -- it's another altogether to offer it to others at desktop size. I don't know who put the Detroit Rock City on there, but it's not part of my original.
Sorry, but I'm a professional photographer and I make my living making photos like this.

That is a pretty cool picture. Is that one of those pictures where they merge two images so the exposure on the sky looks the same as the building?
Anyways, don't usually see the big D that lit up.
Oh, oh, major faux pas. Only Dallas (home of America's Team) can be called "Big D."

I think Mikoyan really really likes Dallas
This is a side of Mik we haven't seen.
I think I peed a little.
wv = "inged"
As in, Me thinks Mik has become a bit un-inged over this Dallas thing.
I live in Texas and feel the same way about the Cowboys.
However, all of Dallas does not deserve to be lumped in with those idiots with the star on the side of their heads.
Well!!
Being a natural born citizen of the sovereign republic of Texas,
I say neener, neener rooty-toot-tooty.
speaking of Detroit, what do you guys think of this plan to demolish about a quarter of the city and turn it into farmland?

Anyways...back to my original question...
Is that one of those HDR(?) pictures? The exposures look too balanced in the picture.

"As in, Me thinks Mik has become a bit un-inged over this Dallas thing."
You boys are absolutely and permanently incorrigible.

As in, I don't have to listen to aulat bull**** from GBB and SiC.
Great image, thanks!
