I've heard they are still thinking about making the game last. Which is utterly retarded if not in the same division as on the off chance they will be looking at a repeat in the championship game no one will play.
The whole thing is retarded and the greed in this country is out of Fn control.

Bastards! This is what happens when money gets involved... What was wrong with the Big 10? Why did we need the Big 10 11 12???

For 2011 and 2012 the last game of the season is Michigan and Ohio State, the schedules were posted and that remains the same. The championship game is the following week.

Link to the buckeye schedule for the next 2 years................

It certainly looks like the outcry of both sides made a difference and the M/OSU rivalry on the last game of the season has been spared.

Saint, to answer your question of "why?"

Consider the war chest if crystal footballs the SEC has now. Then take a look at the new stadium enhancements, the new practice facility, and the new weight room. If you are not growing bigger and better at the same or better pace as your enemies, you are finished.

The Big Tenlevenwelve always needed a championship game. They didn't necessarily need divisions though. The top two teams at the end of the schedule could have played each other. If there were three teams tied they could have come up with some kind of tie breaker.
Nebraska followed by tUOS next year is murder.

Yes BAH,

We will murder Nebraska in their first trip to the Big House, and then make it a double homicide by finishing off tUoOS a week later in the same location.

That will also make it a 2 game winning streak against the buckeyes, as we will have our initial revenge with them this season.

(Yes, I'm a little amped up this morning....I'll be on the road to Ann Arbor in less than 48 hours!)

Not sure i can agree with you Hammm.

Two divisions is really the only way to pull off a real championship game. Taking the top two teams on the stack would have resulted in too many "rematch" games.

Take a look at the SEC. It works.

I don't really like it. It sounds like an attempt to have your cake and eat it too. I mean in the long run it diminishes the importance of the Michigan-Ohio State game. I can see a situation where both teams know they are playing in the championship game because they've won their respective divisions and then they end up holding back in the last game of the season because for all practical purposes it is meaningless. Especially since they know that they will be facing off the week afterwards.

I would have preferred to see them in the same division. Ah well...progress, right? Right?

We need to borrow the Delorean from Doc and Marty, return to 2007 and prevent Martin from giving the Sports Almanac to RR. This is the only way to correct this horrible disruption to the space time continuem.

I understand the need for divisions and a playoff game. I just don't understand why they are orienting them the way they are.

I have the same feeling, Mik. If the teams have their divisions wrapped, then meeting two weeks in a row devalues both games...one doesn't "matter" and the other is a repeat from the week before.

Personally, in the situation in which we find ourselves, I would have preferred to have The Game moved earlier in the season. That at least gives some time for the drama and anticipation to rebuild, and you know the game will always matter since nothing has been decided yet. At this point, I'm not sure leaving it at the end of the season really preserves anything but a thin facade of tradition.

Why do I have this feeling that at some point The Game is going to be eliminated?

And the only reason I have this feeling is because we see it often enough in other sports. The only time in recent memory where two teams played their hearts out was the last game of a couple seasons ago where the Giants played the Patriots. Both teams had their playoff spots locked but the Patriots were going for destiny and the Giants were going for the spoiler. In a way, I'm glad the Giants didn't win that game because ruining the perfect season with a minute and a half in the Super Bowl was so much better.....I hate Boston teams...:)

The NCAA requires that you have 2 divisions if you want to have a title game

also, I like the fact that it's still the last game. If you move it up in the season, that means the tradition of the game is fucked up each and every year. The way it is now, it will only be fucked up when we actually do meet in the title game

...and that probably won't happen a lot anyway, at least not for a while (you guys haven't exactly been doing to great recently and we just got put in a division with the 2 teams that we've had the most trouble with over the past decade)

Remember, there are 10 other votes at the table that really don't care that much about the importance of " The Game". They are most interested in maximizing their own value.

Ultimately, the prospect of a future M/OSU championship game was more desirable for the stake holders in this decision than the tradition and passion of the rivalry.

The was no perfect solution for this.

....and we didn't get hosed like Sparty did....man, did they take it in the shorts.
