More Sadness: Rest In Peace Mark Fidrych

Mark "The Bird" Fidrych, 54, was found dead this afternoon by a family friend after an apparent accident on his farm late this afternoon in Northborough, Massachusetts.

Tiiiiigers fans remember this young gun as a gangly, unique, and highly talented pitcher who would talk to the ball, groom the mound incessantly, and fling the ball past batters who "stood there like the house by the side of the road".

As a rookie in 1976, Fidrych was named American League Rookie of the Year after he posted a 19-9 record with a 2.34 ERA. He finished second in the Cy Young votes too.
His pro career, lasting 5 years in the Bigs with the Tigers ended prematurely due to injury. But that did stop him from coming back to Detroit as a team ambassador.

I was only 5 when he came into the league, but Fridrych and his antics are some of my clearest memories of Tiger baseball growing up.

T9 I seem to remember a sixty minutes piece on Miz Chambers. Seems she was trying to work in Hollywood. Too tainted for them I guess. Don't believe I've ever seen one of her movies.
