Drew for Drew

Seriously????
Drew Stanton injured.
Drew Henson hired.
Jeff Backus calls him a "Michigan Man" but I gotta tell ya, I'm not so sure about that.....
Lemme reminded you all of what a complete doofus/athletic bust Henson has been....
Amazing football, baseball, and basketball star out of Brighton High.
Comes to Michigan in 1998 but is also drafted by the Yankees.
Messed with Tom Brady's mojo while at Michigan until Henson decided to leave us high and dry for the Yankees in 2000.
Retires from baseball in 2003 with a .111 batting average in the majors.
Jumps back to football, and is drafted by the Houston Texans and is then traded to the Dallas Cowboys in 2004. Plays one game (Thanksgiving 2004) for them and went a pitiful 4-12 for 31 passing yards in the first half before he was benched for Vinny Testaverde......who was like 40 years old at the time.....
Soooo, our hero goes over to NFL Europe and is then let go by the Cowboys (who by now have Bledsoe and Romo in queue) in 2006. He's picked up by the Minnesota Vikings, but well um.....he was cut from their training squad in 2007. Not sure what he's been up to since....
But, now with Stanton's thumb injury, the only back up to Kitna is Orlovsky. Lions' QB coach Scot Loeffler was a graduate assistant when Henson was at Michigan and Matt Millen had wanted to draft Henson way back when, but Houston "scooped" him up. So, now when the Lions need a warm body to fill the roster in case both Kitna and Orlovsky go down....they take Henson

Unbelievable...........................

While I am as disappointed as the next UM fan that he left for the yankee$, I certainly wouldn't wish for him to have to be on the Lions roster. Shoot, I don't hate tOSU to wish that on them.

That's whats so ironic about the whole Drew Henson story to me....

Is being on the Lions now a 'dream come true' for the local kid? or is it yet another example of how far this guy has fallen????

Is his story another example of the "emperor has no clothes"? or just a sad story about wasted talent????

Or, is this really yet another reason to fire Matt Millen????

I was wrong when I wanted him to play as a freshman (and not Tom Brady).

I was wrong when I cursed his decision to go to the Yankees.

I was wrong when I thought he would be an all-pro in the NFL.

I hope I am wrong when I think this is a sad move for the Lions.

he's still my favorite subject of a conspiracy theory- i have numerous friends who still believe that George gave him the $17 mill to keep michigan from winning a MNC in 2001.

personally, i think that's a bit much, even for tosu & George. however, i have to wonder if Drew had signed w/ tosu, would George have pressured him quite so hard to skip his last season of college....

I don't believe in conspiracy theories. George likes to throw his money around but generally when he throws his money around it's to help the Yankees. I don't think he'd throw money at Henson just to keep him away from Michigan.

but it's funny, he didn't like baseball when the Yankees traded him to Cinci. He apparently didn't like football when it looked like he was going to play in Houston. What will his opinion be towards one of the original football teams that still hasn't even played in a Super Bowl?

I think the Aussies have a word for him.....wanker.
