I need to find an obsession that will love me back. When Michigan got the ball with about 1:30 left in the half, I chuckled to my friend standing next to me "...if Lloyd Carr were still the coach, we would go into a shell and walk thru the tunnel, but not Coach Rod, he is going to score..." The next moment Sheridan threw a bad interception and Utah marched right down and scored a TD before the half expired. Game over.
I can't say that I am shocked or even that mad. Utah is not a pushover and we kinda are at this point. I know this overhaul is going to take some time. I saw some things that I loved. The defense was shockingly bad in the 1st half. If we get to 6 wins (and a bowl bid) I will consider the season a success. Anyone that thinks that this will be easy or that RR needs to be fired should consider finding another college football program, because a quick fix is not going to happen.

bless you Andy for the healing pic.
bless you.
yes, thanks
i guess the question that nobody is asking is...
does a good coach tailor his offense and defense to the players he has, or does he run a system that doesn't fit any of his players simply because that's what he's used to?
how bad would it have been for rrod to run a pro-style type offense the first year, while recruiting the pryor's, russell sheppards, and kevin newsomes of the world so he can install his system once he has the pieces?
when tressel came to osu, he ran the vanilla, strategic punting offense that played to krenzel's talents. in 2005 and 2006, he completely switched to a high powered passing offense to play to Troy Smith's talents. Now he's running a hybrid to play to Beanie's talents.
i would have redshirted your top freshmen. promised mallett, arrington and manningham that i'd run a pro-style passing offense that would showcase them for the nfl, recruited for the spread, then made the switch in 2009
i'm not saying, i'm just saying
Sru, that is the most logical thing I have ever read from you. Please stop it now, or I am going to start thinking that you are really a Michigan fan that has been pulling my leg for 3+ years.
Sru/Andy,
Way too much focus on QBs.
This O line could never block long enuff to pass down field or drive off the ball to run off tackle. Even if Boren had stayed, we'd be a sieve up front.
Think about it this way- if Lloyd hadn't retired, if no one had left early for the nfl, what would have happened differently Saturday? Do you really think Mallett handing off to Minor to run off left tackle would have been more succesful with this crowd blocking? Can you really see Mallett taking that long 7 step drop to set up the slow developing down field pass to Manningham not ending up in a sack?
R2 HAS tailored this offense to his talent. He has 5 O linemen who couldn't block for pro style system if you gave them another month.
The spread covers for a lack of pro stock linemen by moving the ball away from pass rush instead of requiring the line to block so the QB can stay in one place. These guys have talent but no experience. They will pick up the spread's zone scheme long before they would mesh well ennuff to block a pro set.
