I am back after a couple of days yanking fish from the ocean. Thanks to T9 for holding down the fort while I was gone. This edition of Wallpaper Wednesday pays tribute to the enduring Michigan spirit of Bo Schembechler and ties in a bit Adidas marketing.
Top ranked Ohio State was favored by 17 points going into Ann Arbor on November 22nd, 1969. The Buckeyes were the best team in college football history and playing for their second consecutive national championship. Michigan was playing for a Big 10 championship, a birth in the Rose Bowl and most importantly... revenge. In 1968 the Buckeyes humiliated Michigan 50-14. When a reporter asked Hayes why he went for a two-point conversion late in a blow out game, Woody replied: "Because I couldn't go for three!"
To motivate his team leading up to the game, Schembechler had the number 50 displayed everywhere in the Michigan locker room, and taped to every player's practice uniform. It worked.
Final score: Michigan 24 Ohio State 12.
