Beaver in the Big House

I typically do not post about recruits because I think it opens Pandora's box of bad karma, but considering how bad we are THIS year, it is time for me to start thinking about NEXT year.
Amongst the many recruits at Michigan Stadium on Saturday was Texas QB recruit Shavodrick Beaver. It is my opinion that the single most important position in the Rich Rodriguez spread offense is the quarterback position. EVERYTHING depends on the QB 1) making good decisions 2) having the physical skills to throw to an open receiver and 3) having the speed to keep the defense off balance and aware of the run.

Beaver recently had shoulder surgery and is planning on enrolling early - which is good because without the benefit of spring football he would not be ready to go in 2009.

It's my understanding that Beaver may not be physically cleared to play spring ball, is that true?

I have heard he may be out for something like "4-6 months". If so, I doubt he will have any contact during spring ball.

Right now, I just want to kid to enroll and move to Ann Arbor so we don't lose another verbal. All this losing makes it tough to keep talented kids from looking elsewhere.

He looked like he was having a good time on Saturday before the game and he was getting ALOT of love from the fans that recognized him (me included).

He may not be "THE MAN" but he certainly is a step in the right direction.

We just lost Anthony Fera (kicker) who had verbally committed and just last Thursday changed his mind and is now going to Penn State. We met him and his Dad at one of the early season games. They stopped by and introduced themselves at our tailgate and he seemed real excited about coming to Michigan. I think he went on a visit to Penn State when they played Michigan and then changed his mind. He was a great kicker, consistantly kicking off deep into the end zone (what a concept!!) and was an accurate field goal kicker also. I totally agree with you Andy. If we do not show a little more ability to win the last few games there may be other recruits bailing out.

i'd like to make a request of my fellow Michigan fans (here & elsewhere). when the day comes that we beat tosu again- this year, next year, ten years from now? please don't go out and do this:

could they be anymore pathetic? maybe it really is Michigan arrogance on my part, but going out and making up a tee shirt for beating anyone is pretty bush league. almost as bad as handing out little pants pins.

sigh.

SiC,

T-shirts and little gold pants…It's like taking a scalp: a hair-raising experience to say the least, but I digress.

Seriously, you want a kid with a name like that? Every dyslexic in the country will be incapacitated by tears of laughter as they mock your program.

It might be worth a touchdown or two to the opposition as they rain down abuse on the poor kid. He will miss practice due to therapy appointments.

And you all are worried about a T-shirt?

Right now, I would take a QB named WOODY BUCKEYE HAYES -- as long as he can "run" the RR offense.

Watching Threet is painful. He is a good enough kid in a standard pro style offense. But as I kept saying to T9 all day on saturday -- the defense ends and linebackers from every team we play have ABSOLUTELY no fear of him holding onto the ball and taking off. The defense is not forced to fear the option choice, because there is never a downside for them to crash on the RB.
