For some reason in a very short time I have developed a strong dislike for Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio. Over the years I have looked at most MSU coaches with pity -- but something about this guy just rubs me the wrong way. Maybe it his close association with Jim Tressel, but there is no denying it exists.Let's recap:
1) He has a count-down clock installed counting down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until the Michigan game. Cute for blogs and Senator Tressel at basketball games - but if you need a clock to remind your players when a rivalry football game starts, you are in trouble.
2) He mocks Michigan and holds a moment of silence after we lose to Appy State last year.
3) He asks his players how long they are going to "Bow down" to Michigan to motivate them before the game last year.
4) His team responds in classic fashion losing to Michigan as only Sparty can, blowing a 10 point lead with 7 minutes left.
4) He gets pissed when Michigan players hold a moment of silence after beating his team and takes a short guy swipe at Mike Hart.
Just remember... pride comes before the fall.
We may be down this year, but I guarantee you it won't take us 6 years to return...
2002: I miss Bobby Williams.
2003: Chris Perry 51 carries.
2004: Braylon Edwards owns your soul.
2005: So much for being the underdog.
2006: Steamrolled.
2007: Little Brother game.

I have a deep and long-standing disdain for Sparty and it won't go away any time soon.
Best quote over the weekend by an ESPN announcer? To paraphrase: every year we get fooled into believing that the Spartans are a good football team...

You set them up, nay, beg them to fulfill your expectations...could be really ugly on Saturday.

If we MUST lose to Sparty, this is the year to do it.....they have less claim to the win, as we basically suck. It is much worse to lose to Sparty when we are "good". Nevertheless, winning Saturday would be the Icing on the Icing of the cake......SOOOOO Sweet!!!!
If they do win, I expect them to taunt, plant their flag AND have Dantonio pounding his chest....and anything else that they can muster. They are likely renting trucks now to bring their sofa's down to A2 to burn on site.

w/ Sparty fans, there is no down side to pregame smack. if the green goobers win this saturday, the behavior of every farmer and hotel clerk who attended moosu will be the same, whether you mock them before the game or not.
Sparty wins mean catching crap from the people who clean your office, having to listen to the bragging of the MBA who's handing you the kids' Happy Meal at the drive thru, and sitting thru tales of sparty success while you're getting a shoe shine in the airport.
you're going to have to put up w/ their behavior anyway, so might as well do something to deserve.

Actually, they both mean the same thing.
If they win, I hope they plant the flag. I hope they take a ton of "we won in the big house" pictures. I hope that Dantonio pounds his chest like a gorilla.
It will provide a nice back drop for this rivalry for years to come.
