Yesterday, somehow I failed to mention the moment in which the world began to realize that Brian Bosworth was "all hat and no cowboy". His NFL legacy was never the same following this play.
Looking back on it 20+ years later, this play is not that big of deal. Bo Jackson was an incredible running back and Bosworth really didn't have much of a angle or chance to keep him out of the endzone. But none-the-less, here it is.

bad angle or not, Ray Lewis? Mike Singletary? Dick Butkus?
those guys make that play.
what the clip shows is that Boz, all hype aside, was never going to be one of "those guys".
Bo knows how to get in the endzone though!
Oh, come on! That angle with the head of steam Bo has and the fact that he's "Bo" means even Butkus, et al could not make that play. You would defy the laws of physics.
Whet. I agree with you. He made the tackle, it just happened to be in the endzone. Everyone remembers the play as "Bo trucked him" - but it really was not that spectacular.
I know a guy here in Austin (former Longhorn) that played with Bosworth on the Seahawks. I asked him about "The Boz" a couple of years ago -- he said that once the NFL started testing for PEDs -- his body just started to shrink back to his normal size. Without the strength he was not that great of a player.
well, since we don't seem to have anything else to argue about...
go to any of the "Bo" videos and watch for the highlights of the Niners' game. Bo breaks a big run down the sideline and some safety (somebody named Ronnie Lott, i think) comes over to make the play.
Bo rocks him on the hit (which is why the play is on the video highlight) but not before Lott puts enough shoulder into him to shove Bo off his path & out of bounds.
so, you think Ray Ray or Butkus wouldn't have stopped him on that play against Seattle? maybe but they wouldn't have gotten carried another 3/4 yards into the end zone, either. like Ronnie Lott, they would have hit him low at the point of impact and made (or not) a tackle. Bo, being Bo, might have blown up the tackle and still stumbled into the endzone, but there wouldn't be a highlight film of them dancing w/ him for 4 yards the way Bosworth did.
Sorry, SiC,
I have to go to the mat on this one. All things being what they are, velocity, mass, angle of approach, stance, people in the way trying to impede your speed vs. a completely different set of variables...
No way, Jose.
I got your back Sic, I felt the first time that I saw that that if Bos played smart and hit him low in the thigh region Bo doesn't even make the endzone. You have to know how to tackle, not just how to hit and be tough.
Aye, yai, yai, arm chair diagnostics.
Not you too, Shorty. Jeez. I was beginning to think you were a sensible chap.
If, "ifs" and "buts" were candies and nuts, we’d all have a Merry Christmas.
I don't have a dog in this fight, but fair is fair. When you're fighting off blocks AND trying to tackle a hard-charging Bo, you may not have the balance or time to tackle low. In this video just making contact is impressive.
I don't think there is any way anyone stops him from getting into the end zone there. Granted also though that The Boz could have definitely laid a better hit on him and maybe gon low. Even going low though Bo (3 words that rhyme wooo!) would still have reached over/through him and gotten in for the TD. There's no way a laterally moving LBer would have enough force to hit someone and drive them back or stop them completely that's moving as efficiently as Bo. Bo and Barry Sanders are the two most fluid athletes I can remember.
Chuck Norris would've stopped him.
If an episode of "Walker: Texas Ranger" changed your life...
...you might be a redneck.
wv = blumen.
As in, you'd have to be a blumen idiot to think anyone could have stopped Bo in this scenario.
for something that will change your life search "mandles" on youtube. Seriously great stuff.
Ahahahahahaha...
Shorty,
That was too funny. I'm laughing like a mad man.
Forwarded it to all my manly friends.
