One and DONE

In hockey, NOTHING is better than a hot goaltender. And we just ran into one... Andrew Volkening this is your day. Congrats to the Air Force Academy hockey team. This is a big win, enjoy it.

Air Force 2
Michigan 0

Season over. Done. Finished. See you next year.

Note to self: Next time you want to type something to the effect of "Michigan should win this game" please remember the college sports gods are not Michigan friendly and they will find every way possible to make you wish you had attended Kalamazoo College instead.

Appy State, Toldeo, Air Force. Ouch.

off we go, into the wild blue yonder...

had to say that, since my dad was in the Air Force. Anyway, I don't know much about college hockey...but this loss to AF is like the Toledo and Appy State losses?

Anytime a national power loses to a service academy - it is a big deal. Nothing in college hockey is like college football. A single playoff hockey game is essentially a random number generator. Throw in a hot goalie and you often get something like this.

Put it this way: There was not one player on either Appy State or Toldeo that Llyod Carr wanted. There is not one player on the Air Force hockey team that Red Berenson wanted.

Yes but saying that Air Force's hockey team is in anyway similar to Toledo or Appy State's mediocrity is ludicrous. They are a damn good team that has made it to the tournament 3 years in a row now. Plus they had a great night from a goaltender and an absolute horrid night for MI hockey. I know they got 40 shots on goal but where did they come from? The whole game I was sitting there yelling "shoot the damn thing!" I only saw really maybe 10-15 actual decent shots and the rest were all pitiful attempts. Their power play is a disgrace and their penalties likewise. Yes I did also see how the officials are terrible in blwoing the whistle way too early to stop play. There were two big chances where the puck was free in front of AF net and they blew the whistle. I thought the one time the M player was going to lay out the referee.
I blame myself because I watched the game and games I watch on TV never go well.

Appy State was a two time defending champ

If an opposing goalie is standing on his head, there's not alot a team can do.
