One of the nice things about the start of spring practice, is we can get some actual football news. This week RR announced that former starting QB Nick Sheridan will forego his 5th year of eligibility to "go into the coaching profession". Sheridan's father is a former Michigan assistant and is currently on the staff of the Miami Dolphins.Through no fault of his own, Nick Sheridan is the face of the transition pain we have experienced over the last two years. He was just a good kid looking to play football at Michigan. He became an ill-prepared walk-on starter thrust into the harsh spotlight as the QB for RR's new spread offense. As expected, he stuggled as much as the doomed 2008 team.
The highlight of his career came late in the 2008 season, where all by himself he led Michigan to a 29-6 win at Minnesota. He looked like a real college football quarterback as he threw for 203 yards and a touchdown. Two years into the transition, that game remains as the only road victory of the RR era.

He must be graduating this spring or whenever the next graduation is because he can't coach until he graduates. At least with UM. I would have thought they'd keep him on the team if nothing else to play the role of coach to the younger kids on the team while still suiting up. Maybe he just didn't want to go through the rigors of practice also so who knows. Definitely seems like a good kid and hopefully turns into a good coach that repays M in due time.

As you so accurately stated, he will be remembered as the face of the 2008 season. The MGoBlue post states he is looking for a graduate assistant coaching position but does not say if it is at Michigan or not. Under more normal circumstances he would have completed his four years as the third or fourth sting QB, gotten his degree and not have been very well known. I give him credit for sticking around last year even though he knew he would not play. Still a good story about one of the good guys.

He can't take a grad assistant position at Michigan because he is not a grad.
Regarding the 2011 Notre Dame night game. I will post something in a second to stimulate meaningful conversation.
I do not like the idea of a night game, but we all knew this was coming. This will make for a very long day since I know we will still start our tailgate at 5:30am like always. My sons will have chance to get drunk and sober up two or three times before the game. Kind of like yesterday.
Hammm... This might be a good game for you to come up for if we can get you tickets.
back on thread, Nick is actually a better story than the sappy ND "Rudy".
he's the kid that never had a chance, nobody wanted, who worked really hard and one day got his shot. unlike Rudy, Nick actually played & contributed. as bad as 2008 was, it would have been worse if he hadn't been there. he even won a game.
it's kids like him that should never have to hear "boos".

Would Sheridan have been on scholarship this year anyway? I somewhat think he wouldn't have. But that's just me. I know he was last year and 08 but I thought those were earned and not for the duration.
