Nothing sells more papers like smacking the home team when they are down.In keeping with the long held MZone tradition -- I want to rant about Drew Sharp. When things are bad for the Wolverines, you can always depend on The Detroit Free Press and Drew Sharp to make them look worse.
I decided to read his column for the first time all season because I needed a good kick in the balls after watching Juice Williams set a Michigan Stadium record for 431 total yards. I needed to feel more pain about the most points the Illini have ever scored against the Wolverines. I needed to give up all hope for 6 wins and a cold weather/tuesday night bowl game.
Rest assured, Drew delivered in his typical middle school journalism style:
The booing returned to the Big House.
It’s become the newest Michigan tradition.
They haven’t turned the corner.
They can’t even find the street.
Juice was in the Big House.
And I’m not talking about O.J. Simpson’s new residence.
The only thing defensive for Michigan Saturday was its coach.
The sad thing is, the only thing wrong with what he wrote is the fact that he took such great joy in doing so. We have made it too easy for this assclown to be happy, and that pisses me off.

You may not have caught the silver lining in that Jim Carty, Drew Sharp's brother in Haterade isn't writing for the Ann Arbor news anymore.
http://blog.mlive.com/jim_carty/2008/10/it_was_a_privilege_to_write_fo.html
Small consolation, I'm sure. But its a small victory.
gh,
yeah, looks like he quit writing to go to law school. at Toledo.
i guess he couldn't get into michigan???
Why I try to avoid media in all it's forms. TV, print, internet, etc. Some may say I'm "uninformed" but I prefer to be uninformed over pissed off 90% of the time.
sic, I'll admit that I'm rather pround of being able to meet the standards of UM MBA program and I believe I made a very good choice to spend my $90K here instead of $20K at a lower level school, but I won't hate on Carty as I know that not everyone who gets into the top programs is automatically destined for greatness and those who go to lower tiered schools aren't necessarily lacking in talent. I have a very good friend who did her JD at UT and it fit her goals/needs perfectly. She now does a lot of good, needed work for her community's family court which I have a lot of respect for. (And its one of the only places in the world where I'll admit we NEED more lawyers.)
Carty made a good living taking shots at UM and its athletic office. I'm not a fan of his journalistic integrity/impartiality, but I've accepted that his has a lot of company and that isn't going to change anytime soon.
There's a reason why sports blogs are popular and printed media is failing.
gh,
UT is a very good smaller school. i have numerous business partners who attended there and are very good lawyers.
on the other hand, Carty was a prime player in the athletics "scandal" story and i am going to look down on HIM for not getting into a michigan.
"I believe I made a very good choice to spend my $90K here instead of $20K at a lower level school,"
Michigan Law School = $90K+
$90K+ to equip one's self to be an accredited predatory a-hole among the normal populace???
So that's where these pieces of human debris learned how to screw other people out of their money. The ol' sexual abuse cycle in full view.
- A fan of the legal system
(pardon the broad brush)
To Whitestonebuck. I think someone needs to chill. Plus, I believe GH was referring to business school not law school. I would like to hear your uplifting thoughts on that...
Christopher,
Read between the lines. No chilling necessary.
Now for something completely different:
"I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them."
It's Whetstonebuck--not whitestone. You just insulted me.
Whets, was that line from The Shootist? Seems I've seen The Duke use that line.
Tom,
Yes indeed. One of the great movies. I love that quote. It's so, so...Wayne-ish.
Whets,
you seem unusually short tempered tonight. bad day at the office? or did you just get sued lately???
since i did go to law school, let me say, on behalf of the "accredited predatory a-hole(s) among the normal populace" (since i'm being an a-hole, it should have been "amongst"), it was tuition well spent- like getting a license to print money.
and since both institutions(tosu & Michigan) have law schools, i'm awfully glad i went to the better one (by leaps & bounds) of the two. it's startling how many east coast in-house counsels looking to hire a piece of human debris in the midwest are impressed w/ a michigan degree (and either surprised or amused to discover tosu has a law school).
as for the "normal population"??? i had to laugh. behind every schister, ambulance chaser, and blood sucking vampire, is an amazingly greedy, money grubbing, and absolutely immoral lay client looking to get rich. w/out all of them, what would i do for a living? hell, i might have to sell my beach house???
nice quote from John Wayne though.
SiC,
Ahahahahaha. Well, there you are.
Geez, it's not funny if you don't respond immediately. Poor Christopher got caught up in my shenanigans.
Christopher, I apologize for leading you astray.
It was the perfect storm today. Actually, I was having a beautiful day, but I got a little bored for the first time in twenty years. There was absolutely no human contact for me to interact with and you threw out that snarky comment about all things Michigan being superior. And if that isn't enough, your buttons are so big and red; screaming "Push us! Push us!
So I did. But you didn't respond. No joy.
Oh well, at least a couple of comments came in. This place is getting kinda slow. I feel bad for Andy and T9. They really put in a lot of work.
Anyway, I apologize to the lawyers in our midst. My humor was only appreciated by moi.
Also, Christopher, I have high regards for those with business degrees. My father had one from tOSU. He was the most honorable man I ever knew. Business makes the world go round. Obviously, my humor doesn’t.
I think I'll switch to decaf.
Sic,
(Alias Snarky Boy)
Thought you might find the following interesting. But then, I didn't take Eng. 101 at Michigan.
Among or amongst?
Some people make a distinction between these, using amongst with verbs that imply movement: we stood among the trees but: we walked amongst the trees; the money was shared out amongst the members. There is no need to do so; either form can be used in any context. See also between.

Whets,
i apologize for my absence. it's been busy at work. what w/ the bad economy & crashing real estate market, i've been over worked evicting widows, single mothers, and orphans 24/7.
if it weren't for the enjoyment i garner from the misery of others (and the profit that goes w/ it), i'd have to take a vacation.
Andy & T9 have done a wonderful job, and the bulk of the old neighborhood does still stop by. i just think this is a tough season to be a startup. i admit- i don't have all that much angst this year. we aren't very good, i didn't expect us to be much better, and there's not much to argue about it.
likewise, despite all the pre season hype, tosu fans are pretty much deflated, too. being eviscerated by usc early (instead of having it happen in january w/ an SEC team) has really taken the "smack" out of most tosu fans. again, there's not much to argue about it, either.
plus, i was an early fan of the mzone- sheer luck mind you. it was months and months before Yost had a steady large following. these guys are good. like Michigan's offense- it's just a matter of time before everyone catches on....

See why I miss you? That was hysterical.
True, the season has not been good to either camp. A pall has settled over both houses. However,
we might get a second shot at the Trojans. A win there would but the ol' swagger back in the fans.
and as for usage-
Kenneth G. Wilson (1923–). The Columbia Guide to Standard American English. 1993.
among, amongst (preps.)
These two prepositions are interchangeable in meaning, but among is far more frequent in American English; for some, amongst has a rather dusty-genteel quality. It occurs far more often in British English....

what part of "dusty, genteel quality" don't you find compelling? had you gone to law school, it would have come to you more obviously (i dare say).
Had I gone to law school, I would loathe myself. Consequently, I would be so depressed grammar (and even grampar) would mean nothing to me.
ah, whets, you don't know what you are missing! since abolition of trial by combat, dueling, and gunfights in the streets, suing people is the next best thing.
"...suing people is the next best thing."
So that's why people walk into law offices and shoot everyone. And all this time I thought it was the small print that drove people to murder.
How the hell did this become a pile on the lawyers session?
This is a pretty good blog but it has big shoes to follow and it takes time to develop a following.
"How the hell did this become a pile on the lawyers session?"
Well, it's so easy. Plus, your team gets a break from the microscope.
This is redemption. The lawyers get to take one for the team.
Whets-
Imagine how many people would get shot if NOT for the lawyers? 99% of people would have no other recourse.
I save lives, damn it! The fact that it's lucrative is merely a "bennie"! BTW- if you can handle musicals, richard Gere's portrayl of a lawyer in "Chicago" is priceless.
Mikoyan- you are dead on. This is pretty good stuff. Need to give it time. They just need Colin Cowherd to steal something to put them on the map!
First, Thank you Andy for putting the Ass Clown's content on the blog, no matter how much I would be interested in reading what he wrote I refuse to EVER click on a link to his writing. I typically do the same for Carty as well, (avoid reading his hatred) the last time I read it was the column he wrote this season on booing and it pissed me off, thus I reminded myself that I don't read Carty.
Secondly, what joy and jubilation I feel to know that Carty is GONE!!!!!!!! The icing on the cake is that he is going to Toledo law school.....*snicker*.
Thirdly, this blog is incredibly well written and the community of Mzone remains fairly in tact. I am grateful to have a place to share my thoughts. Many thanks to Andy and T9!!
Thanks for the support you guys. And the entertaining banter.
Where else can one find dueling with usage guides as the swords???
brilliant.
Thanks too for the encouragement. I have been wondering why there's a lot of radio silence and have come to the same conclusions....not much to rant or rave about this season alas. (Although I'm trying to stir the pot a bit)
Some have left for other pastures: joshua/ninja now a member of the WLA. Catie has a boy aka a black hole to the rest of one's 'friends'--although I don't begrudge her the find at all!!!!
It's getting a bit tough to figure out just what to post since at some point it's going to just be like piling on which isn't very 'sportsmanlike'.
Even Brian at MGoBlog has broken out the spector of ennui for this season.....
http://mgoblog.com/content/so-happened
so, what to do?
we soldier on.
ok and JUST as I lament Catie's absence, she posts right before me.
Dear Maiden.
I stand corrected!!!!
:-)
"if you can handle musicals,"
Sir,
I resent the insinuation. And yes, there is something wrong with that.
Must I invoke the Duke once more?
