gee. Beilein had such a bad first season as head coach playing w/ Tommy Amaker's recruits. he had a losing record and the team didn't look very good. he had trouble implementing his own 1-3-1 scheme. got a lot of flak for that, too.
now after a full year of the players practicing in his scheme and a second year of his recruits, he's instituted his system and style of play, and while i wouldn't buy tickets to the Final Four just yet, he does seem to have the team playing better, more competitive basket ball.
and we hired Beilein away from WVU, too.
there's analogy here somewhere. i just can't seem to lay my hands on it right this moment, but there is an analogy here. it'll come to me....
Was definitely a fun game to watch. I thought they'd get pancaked. Then I thought they'd keep it close. Then I was like shit they'll win this. For whatever reason UCLA is a team that Beilein has had the number of. He's 3-1 against UCLA spanning his time at WVU and MI. I think the game against Duke will REALLY be the test of how far the program has come. If they can hold it respectable against Duke and even have a shot to win at the end then there's good things ahead. I and my wife love NYC and would love to hop in a car today and go there and watch but sadly cannot.
It was a fun game to watch, and it is fun to think about how Beilein came from WV, first season sucked, and now they have some real signs of hope.......gives hope to the football program! (not that I doubt, however it is nice to find thoughts that feed the hope!)
I most certainly want to land some tickets to a BB game or two this season. (Hockey too!)
